Makoto was already downstairs by the time Haru had started rapidly knocking on the door. At first, his family was shocked when he had made his way down the stairs and into their living room, but his reassuring smile must have comforted them enough for them to believe his awful lie. The smile he forced himself to display was so delicate, so fragile, that at any moment he was afraid it shatter.
Or maybe someone would see straight through it.
Haru would be able to tell if his smile was fake or not. Wouldn't he?
He placed his shaking hand on the doorknob and slowly opened the door to reveal a furious Haru standing in it's frame.
"Why didn't you answer me?"
His voice was calm, his face even seemed calm, but Makoto knew he wasn't.
Makoto closed his eyes and let out a forced laugh as he scratched the back of his neck.
"Sorry, I, uh," he hesitated while he searched for an excuse, "I lost my phone, sorry, Haru."
"Oh." Haru's whole demeanor changed instantly, though to anyone else it would have appeared the same.
There was an awkward silence for a moment until Haru's phone vibrated with a notification. He took it out of his pocket and grinned a little before looking back up to face Makoto.
"It's Rin. I should probably go... Bye." He turned around and began to walk down the steps behind him.
Now Haru was ditching him for Rin. Well, it wasn't like they were hanging out to begin with, but that didn't mean Makoto wasn't jealous. Extremely jealous. And hurt.
That's when he began to think. Why didn't Haru like him? Why did he like Rin instead of him? If he had asked Haru out before Rin, would he have said yes? In Haru's eyes... was Rin better than him?
"Wait!" He stumbled forward and grabbed Haru's arm.
"What?" Haru spun around, his eyes wide with shock and confusion.
"Um," Oh no, what had he done? "...c-congrats on your relationship with," he gulped, "Rin."
"Oh, thanks."
And then he turned around again and left, this time without Makoto trying to stop him. As soon as Haru was out of sight Makoto quickly shut the door and raced back up the steps and into his room. He slammed the door behind him and dove into his bed to bury his face in his pillows.
A tear rolled down his face. And then another out of his other eye. After a minute his face was a complete mess. Tears smeared on his cheeks, making his face uncomfortably wet. He let out silent sobs that turned into silent screams as he clutched the sides of his bed.
Haru loved Rin. Rin loved Haru. But as for
Makoto... who would love him?W o a h I haven't updated this story in a long time, but I'm back with a bad update and more angst. Ok I'll update in like another five years bye e
