After Haru had gotten ready, they headed out of the house and started walking to their school. They strolled in a comfortable silence, with Makoto glancing at Haru out of the corner of his eyes every few seconds.
The rest of the school day was normal, as was swimming practice. Makoto waited patiently outside of the locker room as Haru got changed back into his school uniform.
"Mako-chan! Aren't you going to leave?" Nagisa skipped over to him cheerfully, with a tired Rei trailing along behind him.
"Oh, I'm just waiting for Haru."
"You two are pretty close."
"They are childhood friends, Nagisa," Rei said.
"I know! I wish we talked more after elementary school," he said, pouting.
Makoto smiled. "We still have high school."
"You're right!" he giggled. "But you have to promise that we'll all hang out more often!" he held out his pinky finger.
Makoto wrapped his finger around Nagisa's. "Promise."
"Good!" Nagisa turned on his heel. "Let's go, Rei-chan!"
Rei pushed his glasses up and gave Makoto a small grin. "Goodbye, Makoto-senpai."
Makoto smiles back and waved as he watched them leave.
Haru still hadn't come out yet, and Makoto started to worry. He debated on going in and checking on him; when he heard a familiar voice.
"Hey, Makoto!"
He turned and saw one of his favorite shark friend heading towards him.
"Rin? Why are you here?"
He felt a pain of jealousy strike him as he realized Rim had come to visit. The sexual tension between him and Haru was enough to make Makoto selfishly develop a tiny disliking for him.
"I came to talk with Haru. Uh," he trailed off as he glanced around; then directed his attention back to Makoto. "Where... is he?"
Makoto forced a smile, and, hoping it seemed convincing enough, answered politely. "He's still getting changed."
"Guess I'll just have to wait for him," he replied with a toothy grin.
"Yeah..."
After another minute or two of silence, Haru stepped out of the locker room; his crystal eyes drifting to them as his brows furrowing.
"Rin..?"
"Oi, Haru! Took you awhile! I'm here talk."
"Ok... Makoto," he turned towards Makoto, and they exchanged looks, and without speaking, they communicated with each other.
"I'll be fine walking home on my own!" he gave them both a laugh that was completely fake. Even Haru didn't notice; Makoto was a great actor when it came to pretending to be happy.
Haru nodded, and he and Rin engaged in a conversation that Makoto didn't bother to listen to as he ran home.
Luckily, his parents and younger siblings weren't home, and as soon as he reached his house and locked the door, he slammed his back against it before sliding to the floor.
He buried his head into his arms, and he let out quiet sobs that could barely be heard from a few feet away.
Worry clawed at his sore hear mercilessly; followed by awful thoughts and visions.
He knew he was overreacting, but he couldn't help it. Rin was going to tell Haru he loved him; he knew it. No,no,no! He didn't have any proof or evidence, so-so...
Makoto let his thoughts overwhelm him; he gave up on trying to deny them.
He sat there on the floor for awhile.
Helpless, alone, and afraid.
