His Last Letters: Epilogue

It had been almost three years since Makoto and Haru had gotten together. Makoto was in his second year of college and Haru had become a professional swimmer, and together they shared an apartment and even a bedroom on the third floor of a building overlooking the city.

Rin had started dating Sousuke a year after Makoto and Haru had gotten together, and Nagisa and Rei were still dating, of course.

One day, Makoto's classes had ended early, so he waited for Haru to get back from practice, a tiny black box sitting on the table next to him.

Thirty minutes. An hour.

Finally, the door opened and Haru walked in,
drenched in sweat and panting heavily.

"Sorry. There was an accident on the train earlier, so I had to walk."

"How far was it?"

"I don't know."

"You should probably go shower."

Haru nodded and set his bag on the kitchen table as he walked to the bathroom.

Makoto sighed and grabbed the black box, fiddling with it as he waited for Haru to finish. More waiting. Maybe he should've given it to Haru when he'd gotten home. It was too late now.

Luckily, Haru came out of the bathroom only ten minutes later, a towel wrapped around his neck.

"Haru!" Makoto exclaimed in excitement.

"What?"

"I-I have something to... show you."

"Okay."

Haru flipped his wet bangs out of his face and sat on the couch next to Makoto.

"What is it?"

"I-Um, it's, um- here." He shyly handed him the box.

Opening it, Haru let out a small gasp when he realized what was inside.

A ring.

Makoto blushed, and, rubbing the back of his neck, he asked, "Haru, will you marry me?"

"Yes. Yes. Yes!"

Haru smiled a real, true smile he wouldn't let anyone else but Makoto see and tackled him with a huge hug.

Makoto was happy. Haru was happy. Everything was perfect. Everything was perfect.
