I was running towards the back gates of the palace. Boy, it felt good to get to know the nice boy, Lucas.
I liked him. I...I... mean, not in a like-like way, but as a friend. I guess.
I am in from of the palace. My heart was beating quickly. I did run, but I didn't feel like that was the reason. I don't know. But whatever.
I open the door and I walk in. People stare at me. Some even sneer. I wonder why....
I look down at my body. What was wrong?? Was there mud on my face or something?!
I am in my overalls. I gasp.
I start to run up the stairs with all my remaining speed and energy.
People start laughing at me, and try to trip me when I am running up.
I reach my room. I look in the big mirror. I am streaked with dirt and horse hairs. Oh.
I quickly change into a royal blue gown.
I flop onto my bed on my stomach.
I cry into my pillow. Nothing is fair. I'm 14. I just got my freedom. I want to be a normal kid. Yet how can I, when people laugh at me when I get the slightest bit of dirt on me?!
As I lay down, I fall into a deep, deep, sleep.
****************************
"Alexia," A voice says.
I look around. I see white. Then, I see Mother, floating, almost like a ghost.
"Dear," She says. "Don't be afraid. Nothing can stop you. Don't let them get to you. Be strong. Also, remember this. Whenever you need me, whenever you feel sad like you can't do this, fall asleep. I can talk to you. I will always be watching you up in heaven."
I then woke up.
******************
Wow. Mother can talk to me in my sleep. Hmmm. Intresting.
It's 11:04.
I hear a soft knock on my door. I quickly glance to see if I look okay, and, my hair looks fine. I stand up and walk to get it.
A little girl who looks almost 7, with blonde hair and a green worn dress was standing there.
"Why, hello," I said, startled, never expecting such a young visitor. "What's your name?"
She looked very shy, but she managed to answer, "Gwendelen."
"Hi Gwendelen, why are you here?"
She didn't answer, but she hinted to me with a small plain box decorated with real flowers which seem wilted.
"Happy early birthday," She whispered.
"What?" I asked, confused.
My birthday??? What??? Wait a minute, yeah! It's the 14th of September, but I turn 15 on the 16th!
"Oh," I replied. "Thank you!"
She smiled lightly. "Open it."
I nodded. I opened the flaps. There was a small handmade tiara on a tattered red pillow. The tiara looked like bendy twigs and flowers attached.
"Oh my goodness," I said. "This is wonderful. Thank you so much Gwendelen!"
Gwendelen gave me a thumbs up.
I gestured for her to sit down. She was very calm for a 7 year old.
She told me about her dad being the mechanic for the sewers, and how she couldn't afford much. As she talked, she became more confident and closer to me than ever. She now she spoke not so quietly. I was happy for her.
"Hey Gwen," I said, giving her a nickname. "Which room do you live in?"
"Number 198. It's pretty big than other rooms." She said. "Wanna come Alexia?"
"Why not?" I said. "But first, I need to get ready because I just woke from a nap. I'll be there in 5 minutes. You go first. Be expecting me!"
Gwendelen giggled and left.
I felt good. I made two friends. Even though she was much more younger than me, she was surely mature for her age.
I brushed my hair and teeth. I then wore the tiara that Gwen had made me.
I then got ready to go to room 198.
