Four days. That’s how long I’ve been back in LA.
It’s crazy how fast I got used to seeing Jimmy every day. Some days it was just a quick lunch if one of us had something to do after work, or he’d come with me to my hotel or I’d go with him to his place, but for the last two and a half weeks in NYC I spent at least a half hour a day with him. My favorite days were Saturdays and Sundays, watching him with Winnie was incredible. I’ve always loved watching a man who knew how to care for something that he felt was more important than himself, and that’s Jimmy.
We’ve talked on the phone or Skype every day, but it’s not the same. I was in my sewing room/office in the front of the house all day, packing all of my supplies to bring to my office, including my sewing machine. It’s going to be fantastic to have my baby back and not have to use the piece of shit that NBC had for me.
As I was putting fabrics into a box I heard Jimmy’s voice coming from my phone:
You know the words to my songs
No habla inglés
Our conversations ain’t long
But you know what is
I know what the girl them want,
London to Taiwan
I got lipstick stamps on my passport
I think I need a new one
Tralalala tralalalala tralalalalalalala
I smiled and let it play out before answering. “Hey, you.”
"Hey yourself," Jimmy replied. "What took you so long? You always pick up after the second ring, I thought for a second it was gonna go to voicemail."
"Um.. No.. no reason." I wasn't about to admit I was listening to him sing, I’d never hear it down.
"No, there’s a reason. C’mon what is it? Having a wild orgy out there?" He asked teasingly.
"Nah, there’s only three guys here, I wouldn’t consider that an orgy. More a gang bang," I replied.
Jimmy laughed. “You’re such a brat.”
"No, I was just listening to your ringtone."
"I’ve got my own ringtone?" He asked, and I could tell by his voice that he was smiling.
"Of course you do. All the important people in my life do," I told him trying to get another box taped up while holding the phone with my shoulder.
"What’s mine?" He asked and I could hear him typing something.
"Just a song I like.. I hear you on the computer are you home or still at the office?" I asked.
"It’s almost 8 o’clock, baby, I’m home," he told me. "Just sending out a few emails, why?"
"Because I’m busting my ass trying to pack and my phone keeps slipping, so I was hoping if you weren’t busy-"
"I’m logging into Skype now," Jimmy said, cutting me off.
I smiled and got up and went to my computer and logged into Skype. “You’re amazing.”
"I know. So what’s my song?" Jimmy asked again.
"Just a song I like," I sent him the Skype request. "Don’t mind me looking like a hot mess, it’s 100° today and I’ve been packing most of the day so I’m a sweaty mess."
