This is in memoriam of Percy's Pillow Pet.
Jason first saw her when she passed through Camp Jupiter's borders. He stopped suddenly upon catching sight of her, making Octavian, who was at his heels, trip and fall over. Normally, Jason would laugh and run to Reyna and tell her all about it. Now, Reyna and the teddy bear slaughtering augur had slipped his mind.
Now only she was occupying his head, and soon all of his heart too. He couldn't stop staring at her. Dakota and Gwen accompanied her into camp. Her h/c hair blowed out behind her in the sweet California breeze, her e/c eyes sparkling as she pointed everywhere, asking Gwen questions while politely refusing Dakota's many offers of Kool-Aid.
"Grace?" Octavian's voice was blurred, as if Jason was underwater and the only face and voice he could see clearly was hers. He could distinctly make out Octavian's sigh. "Guess I'll use Sparky for the next reading..."
Jason didn't respond, though Octavian lingered at his side, waiting for a protest. Jason didn't care about his favorite teddy bear, Sparky, though. Distracted, Jason waved Octavian away. "Knock yourself out."
As Octavian ran away, squealing at the notion of slaughtering something, Gwen started steering Y/n in Jason's direction.
Jason gulped, straightening out his toga he had used in an earlier meeting and smoothing out his Camp Jupiter T-shirt and jeans.
Gwen was a daughter of Venus, trained with matters of the heart. Oh, gods... She knew about Jason's instant infatuation with Y/n. One look at her smirking mouth and Jason knew he was dead meat.
"So," Gwen turned to Y/n. "This is one of our praetors, Jason Grace."
Jason prayed to his father fervently that he looked okay. He stuck his hand out to Y/n with a smile Reyna said was his best feature. "Pleasure to meet you."
"Y/n," Y/n accepted his hand. Jason wondered how her hand could be impossibly soft. "So what do you prefer? Bow, curtsy, or salute?"
A kiss, Jason thought, but restrained from saying it. He grinned at her. "Neither is required, but both are welcomed."
"I'll be taking Y/n away now," Gwen reached for Y/n's arm, guiding her away, much to Jason's disappointment. As if Gwen could read his mind, Gwen shot him a mischievous smile over her shoulder. "Don't worry, Jace. You two lovebirds will get to know each other in no time."
