Shadow (book 3)

Her clan

         The silence is killing me, we usually talk more than this. Or at least argue.
          "Hey, Chi-chan?" I speak up, breaking the silence.
          "Hmm?" She hums.
          "I never really got the chance to ask, but how did your clan suddenly become able to shift into a wolf?" I question, it's probably Aka, but this gives us something to talk about.
           "So you finally ask about that? Well this might take a bit to tell, unless you want the short version of it?" She hops onto a tree branch and looks down at me.
            "I want all the details girl. I want to know how you got the ability, what your clan is like, everything." I say jumping up beside her. This is going to be interesting.
            "Well how about you ask questions and I answer them the best I can or say nothing?" She responds.
             "Alright, first how did your clan suddenly get this ability?"
             "They made a contact with a wolf spirit." Knew it.
             "A wolf spirit huh? I've only heard of one of those," I grin, "and that would be your very own Aka." My aunt.
              "Yeah that's her. She made the contract and told them that she would take something in the future in return for giving them power. They accepted, although over the years they have forgotten who gave them that power and don't even remember something being taken." I notice her clench her fist.
              "Wow how could someone forget who gave them power, that's like forgetting who gave you life." I pause, "Wait what was taken? Well besides you, a great asset to their clan by the way." I could feel the curiosity and anger build.
             "The head clan would not be able to have a male heir. But that's not all, they would also lose some of their humanity." That's actually a good idea.
              "Wow. What age do the kids in your clan go to the academy?"
                "After they shift on their fifth birthday, they can wait till they are 8 or start then. It's just if your a girl you get your ability to shift or, in the case of people who are not in the head family, have wolf ears and tail pop out. If they become a ninja, then they marry they have to leave being a ninja and not be able to use their ability, because they are stuck at home. So glad I left before the age to marry, which by the way is 15." She starts swinging her legs back and forth.              
               "15?! That's too young! I will never allow you to marry until you are at least 20!" My face pales and my eyes widen as I shook me. I know kids get together and stuff once they become genin, but marriage at 15?        
            "Alright! Stop shaking me! We are going to fall! Besides even though the age to marry is 15, they don't have to do anything until they want to or their fathers say so. Now stop shaking me!" She yells and we start to fall backwards. I flip and land on my feet, his knees bent to absorb the impact, with her in his arms. I stand up straight and go to walk, but end up tripping on Kira, us tumble to the ground.
          "Would you get off of me?" She growls, I look to see her hoodie ripped. Crap, that's her favorite one. I feel my eyes widen as I see her glare and red face.
       "I'm so sorry Chi-chan! My poor little sis your face is like a tomato, goes very well with your hair and eyes though." I tell her as I pull her up, trying to distract her from her hoodie.
           "Oh Shadow-kun? What did you say?" Her voice sickenly sweet.
         Crap, not good, not good at all,  "Shadow-kun? That's not good." I start backing up. It didn't take long for her to get cuts and bruises on me, what a pain. I could have gotten away without them, but that would've just ended badly for me.
         "So what is your next question?" She asks nicely with a grin showing her sharp canines.
            "Uh, um does your clan have any festivals or parties?"
            "Yeah, every year, sometime in the summer, there is a festival under the full moon. It used to be for Aka, but as you know my clan seems to forget things that normal people wouldn't. There is dancing around the fire and howling at the moon, I remember that sometimes some would actually activate the Kekkei Genkai." She tells me.
            "We should get to bed. Come on and sleep." I tell her laying down on my futon. I close my eyes, she lays down and I hear Kira move closer. As I fall asleep I could sense Aka somehow watching us, kind of creepy, but at the same time comforting.
