"Oh, Merlin, it's a good thing I have Lily or else I would die just thinking about...Nope, I shouldn't think about that now. Where's that trick stair that, that Dumbledore lady told me about? Ouch, found it." I said as my foot slipped and got trapped in the gap where a step used to be.
Using both my hands I pulled my leg free and continued climbing the stairs.
"Merlin, I hope Lily doesn't have to climb as many stairs as I do, she hates physical activity. Am I nearly at the top or are these things endless?" Looking down, I continued to climb. "Ouch, what? What the...?" I stammered.
I had just collided face first with a solid brick wall that I could have sworn was nowhere near me. Confused, I looked around and saw the portrait that Dumbledore had described. The only problem was that it was on the wall opposite the one I was facing.
"What? I could have sworn I took the right staircase? Oh well."
I started to climb again and I was just halfway down when the ground violently shifted. I ducked down and pulled my hands over my head, thinking it was an earthquake. Then it suddenly stopped. I stood back up and looked around, trying to see if anything was broken or damaged. Then I saw the portrait at the end of the staircase I was in the middle of climbing.
"What the! Oh for Merlin's sake! I completely forgot about the shifting staircases!" I groaned before changing direction and starting to climb again. "Lily would be dead by now." I continued with a chuckle.
Eventually, I reached the portrait, who streaked when she saw me.
"OH MY MERLIN, it's DRACO MALFOY! RUN HARRY I'LL HOLD HIM DOWN!" Then she paused, confusion clear on her painted face. "Hold on, Draco hasn't been in this school for almost 26 years! (any Potterhead out there that could give an exact date? Would be helpful. I tried but the internet is very vague about his age.) Oh, so you must be his son! Wait, it's...um...Scorpius? No of course not, wrong book. Hahaha! No, don't get it? Ok. So what is your name then? Or do I just call you son of Draco?"
I gulped, red with embarrassment.
"Um, my name is Stryker, please don't call me 'son of Draco' its embarrassing," I mumbled, meekly towards the floor.
"Ok then Stryker, why are you here? Draco and Lucius and his father were all in Slytherin and they all absolutely hated Gryffindor. Are you here to cause trouble, to do something to make them proud, maybe to show your fellow Slytherins how much you hate Gryffindor?"
Looking at the floor, I shook my head as quickly as I could as I stood there and listened to her accusations. Usually I'm not like this, usually, I'm strong, brave and outspoken, usually, I don't take crap from anyone, especially about my father. But since I got on the train I've been a complete emotional mess.
"Blue beetles," I muttered.
"What was that?"
I took a deep breath and looked at her, tears in my eyes.
"I said, blue beetles, it's the password." I scrawled at her, just like my father.
Shocked, she just stood there, mouth opening and closing as the portrait swang open to reveal the common room. I walked through it and it closed automatically after me. The room was filled with people dressed in scarlet robes, all chattering and talking excitedly. They acted like they couldn't see me, or maybe I was just unnoticed, either way, I was fine with both. I snuck up the stairs and into my room, there where four other beds in the room. I quickly apologised to the empty room for having to share with me under my breath and chose the bed closet to the door. I flung my case on the bed, drew the curtains around it and opened my case. It was a wizarding case that father had bought for me from a close friend whose last name was Scamander. I put the case on the floor and entered it, closing the lid behind me. (For those people in confusion, I recommend watching Fantastic Beasts) I never intended to sleep at Hogwarts and I wanted to spend every millisecond of my free time down here. The only person who knew about this is Lily and my father. My father isn't that bad, I don't know why everyone thinks he is. My thoughts were interrupted by a soft meow and a sequence of loud purring.
"Oh, hi Snow. I didn't know I brought you. I guess I'll have to tell the head of Gryffindor I have a cat since I haven't registered you. I'm glad you're here though. You know Lily is here too, although she's in Slytherin, I got sorted into Gryffindor." I hesitated, looking at my white cats bored expression. "...And you don't care because you're a cat....and I'm talking to a cat. Merlin, I'm going insane."
Shaking my head I walked off towards the tall stack of books, Snow following in pursuit, purring loudly. The books stacked in a tall shelf, from the floor to the tall ceiling. I climbed the library ladder until the third step and ran my finger gently across the books, sliding on the ladders wheels. I knew exactly what I was looking for.
"...E...F...G...H...Hi...His...History...Ah! Found it!"
I climbed down the ladder, a leather-bound book tucked firmly under one arm. I sat down by the ladder and Snow came up to me. Her long, cloud white fur brushing my arm, her brilliant, sea blue eyes demanding attention.
"Snow this is important!"
I picked up 'A History of Magic' and halfway through reading I raised my wand.
"Accio, all books related to Hogwarts rules," I mumbled half-heartedly.
"RAOW!" Snow meowed at yelling level.
She scratched me across my arm in alarm and bolted around a corner.
"Ouch! What the? Ah!" I proclaimed as I looked up and saw piles of books flying towards me.
I ducked under the ladder but bacame trapped under it by the pile of books.
"Oh Merlin, I've got a lot of reading to do," I muttered, opening 'Hogwarts, A History'.
