Barny appeared back in his own garden, everybody had left, why so soon? Had something happened, had he really missed it all? "Mum? Mum where's everybody gone? Why did they leave so soon?" His Mum pointed to the clock "honey it finished, it's six 'o' clock!" Barny squinted to see the tiny numbers on the clock "oh, you leave to get more lemonade and you miss everything!" Barny's Mum probably knew Barny had left, so he thought he'd better make up a background story for his absence. "What d'you mean, you never left? That reminds me, you were brilliant with those children. Not one of them wandered off!" Barny smiled, but couldn't hide his confusion

"I'm pretty sure Franny did, she was pretty busy!"

"Mmm, no, anyway why don't you go and pack your bags, you're staying at Granny Ruth's this weekend, remember?"

Granny Ruth was Barny's eldest grandparent and most lively. She was blind as a bat but last year she won an ice skating award and did a sponsored bunjee jump. She always wore voloure trackstuits and her big round glasses, nobody thought that they actually did anything for her eyes, but she wouldn't be her without them. But Barny knew that Granny Ruth would have something riveting planned.

Barny walked up to the front step waving goodbye to his Mum, he rang the doorbell and heard footsteps coming down the hall and the door was slowly opened "hello dear!" Granny Ruth held her arms out for a hug and Barny flung himself round her. "I'll take your things, there are brownies cooling in the kitchen specially for you and later on we'll go for a swim." A swim. Not the most exciting thing Barny could think of, but it was something. "We're going to the new pool, they have slides there and a wave pool!" Suddenly the idea of swimming wasn't so boring, he'd thought that they'd be going to the old peoples recreational centre, but when he thought about it, Granny Ruth would never take him there. "Okay, my swimming things are in the front pocket, so leave them in there, I'll just take my backpack." Barny said with a smile. "I'll go and check up on the brownies." Granny Ruth laughed "you do that." Her hair was perfectly curled and she was wearing her glasses as per usual, her tracksuit today was lilac with a golden zip. She was wearing fluffy slippers with socks and a gold charm bracelet.

Granny came slowly walking down the stairs "Righty-ho... Swimming?" She handed Barny backpack "Yep, let me just put my shoes on." barny slipped on his vans and opened the door and let Granny Ruth go through first "thank you," she responded

"it's alright."

They got to the pools and Granny Ruth went to buy Barny a ticket, he waited by the turnstiles, she walked over to him  "here you go, the mens changing is on the right, I'll meet you at the showers."
