Barny and Maisy walked into the cafe and sat down at a table set for two people. Maisy got up "two hot chocolates yeah?"
"I'll have a cappucino." Barny said with a mature smile. Maisy looked at him doubtfully.
"Really?"
"Fine, hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows." Maisy smiled.
After about ten minutes, Maisy came back, beverages in hand and sat down at the table. "Now, tell me everything." Barny took a long slurp of his drink to wet his mouth and began.
"Well, it started in preschool, when Daisy and I met, I let her have half of my peanut butter sandwich. Her face broke out though, turns out she was allergic to peanuts." Barny looked up to the ceiling and smiled. "We laughed about it after a while when we found out it wasn't a serious allergy." Maisy sipped her drink "what did she look like? ... Daisy." Barny stopped hesitated, he'd never really thought about it before. "About the same length hair as you, and blonde. She had bluey-green eyes and always wore shorts with a baggy t-shirt, usually her uncles old t-shirts, she loved her uncle, he was like a Dad for her, he lived just down the street. He was devastated when she, well she- I'll get to that part."
"But why don't you see her anymore?"
"I couldn't if I wanted to."
"Look Barny, whatever happened, wherever she went... She will always want to see her best friend, and there's always a way."
"No..." Barny shook his head and his eyes welled up. "No, not this time... She's gone..." Tears started streaming down Barny's cheeks. "Heyy, hey don't cry." Maisy rubbed Barny's back. "I'm sorry if I have the wrong impression... I never wanted to make you upset."
"it's just that she... she passed away a couple of weeks ago. I think I- I ... No that's stupid." Maisy grabbed Barny's hand "tell me..."
"I- urm I, I could never, just a stupid idea." Maisy smiled
"Okay," Maisy looked down off of the balcony and saw her mother waving at her and signalling for her to come down. "Oh, looks like I need to go, can I take your e-mail?"
"Sure, I'll write it on a napkin." Barny looked down to the napkin and started writing very quickly, Maisy caught his eye and quickly kissed him gently on the cheek. They both smiled and carried on speedily writing their e-mails down. They exchanged them and Maisy ran back down the stairs to the poolside where her Mum was waiting, she blew him a kiss and bit her bottom lip.
