Daisy was gone, the Willow Garden was dying off and Rex had won. Barny thought he had nothing to live for. School had started again and so had his misery. There had obviously been questions and niggles about Daisy but Barny tried to ignore them as much as he could.
Barny walked through the front door and slumped down on the kitchen sofa. Just when things were picking up, they fell right back down again. It was Barny's birthday but he didn't care. Nothing could reincarnate the happiness Daisy brought him. Barny loosened his tie and rolled up his jumper sleeves. His Mum came over to him with a birthday cupcake. "Dinner's not until seven, I figured you'd be hungry. First day back and all." Barny nodded and bit into the cupcake. "Why so glum Barnabear?" Barny smiled, he knew he was being comforted when his Mum called him Barnabear. "Is it because I jet off tomorrow?" She stroked his hair. "I'll be back soon enough." Barny sighed and sat up.
"It's just that people have been talking about Daisy a lot today." His Mum nodded and put an arm around his shoulder. "I get it, teasing or sympathy?"
"Little bit of both." Barny chewed the inside of his cheek awkwardly.
"Don't do that. It'll become an ulcar." Barny breathed deeply.
"Everything hurts Mum, and ulcar is barely a smidgen on what I've felt today." Barny's Mum smiled. "I know it's hard and I'll never ever be able to understand how you feel but tomorrow what I'd like you to do it go into your classroom with super positive attitude and make some other friends, you can invite them round if you like." She kissed Barny on the head and left him slouched down on the sofa.
