"My best friend's died!" Barny's Dad looked a little taken aback by the strength Barny had in his voice "okay!" His Dad walked out of the room "what did you need anyway?" He stopped.
"Well, I needed ya to get me some stuff from town... But I understand how hard it can be." This was the first time that Barny's Dad hadn't been hard on Barny, had something happened to him before... much like Barny's situation? "Okay Dad." He said in a hushed tone, his Dad left the room for good now and Barny got up, dodging the small shards of glass left on the floor he made his way to Bobbie's room. She was napping, when Dad was home that's all she ever did, he didn't know what to do with her at all. He went over and stroked her hair, he pulled up a stool next to her cot and sat down, she turned to face him, she was a bit sleepy but Barny managed to make out the words "I don't like it when you shout." Bobbie had barely ever expressed opinions on Dad before, so Barny was a bit shocked. "Don't worry Bobbie... Mum'll be home soon, once she's done in... wherever she is, she'll come straight back home to see us, and she'll tuck you in every night and read you bedtime stories, like she always did... But she had to take this job... You get that? We didn't have enough money, but she'll be back to give us hugs and kisses... She only works in big chunks, but then she'll be home for at least five months... Then she'll be off again, but just remember that wherever she is, whatever she's doing, she'll be thinking about us and where we are and what we're doing, but Dad won't let us call remember, too much money in other countries for her and us. I'm sure she'd love to talk to us, hear our voices. And although she missed your first few steps...... she'll be there for other things, like when you have your first haircut, when she's back, we'll go and get that done, and when we first take you to the park across town, they've got some really good slides there. And most importantly, when you first go to school, cause it's not quite the same as preschool, it's better and bigger. Mum'll be there for everything, I'll make sure she stays once she comes back...." Bobbie rolled over, she was asleep, Barny slowly got up and put the stool back in place, he walked back into the doorframe "She'll be back soon... I promise." he switched off the lights and pulled the door to, backing out of the room.
