[Maggie's POV]

•••

"Want me to show you the second verse so you can get an idea?" I ask and Shawn nods.

You've been believin'
There's more to this feelin'
I swear, I wish there was
But when the moment is over
We'll walk away closer
Maybe that's good enough

"I get it. I think that's a good idea." he smiles at me and gets his pen so we can start writing.

"Wait if these songs make it to the album, does that mean I'm gonna be in the credits as a writer?" I ask him all of a sudden, it just came to mind.

"Yeah, you don't seem very excited about that though."

"I don't think I want my name there, I don't like clout. I'm happy being invisible, that's why I use the astronaut reference so much."

"Wow Maggie, you really are something else. Anyone would kill to have credits given to them." He chuckles.

"I know and it's not because of you or anything. I just don't think of this as writing a song with The Shawn Mendes, it's more like hanging out with a friend who happens to write music as well."

"I know, I feel the same about being here with you but you still deserve credit, you've been helping me, more than you think." He smiles at me while looking me in the eyes. My hands are shaking, I'm not okay.

"I don't think I have, I just gave you some ideas." I look down at my journal as I'm drawing a little rose on the corner of the page subconsciously.

There's a minute of silence but I can feel his eyes on me, I don't know what he's looking at, but it feels like he's following my every move.

"You really underestimate yourself don't you?" His tone is calm and soft.

"I guess so, Jake says I'm too nice and loyal to my friends and that's why most people fuck me over. I just became really cold and closed off to the outside world but I like making my friends happy and helping them. I'm here with you because I enjoy your company and I'm honestly flattered you asked for my help." I give him a little smile.

He looks at me for a while with his eyebrows scrunched up, like he's trying to figure out something.

"You're too kind and incredibly talented that's why people use you, right?" He asks softly and I nod. "I get where you're coming from, but you shouldn't put yourself down or be invisible when you deserve a lot more. You're like a mind game, hard to figure out but intriguing and fun to play."

There's that word again.

"Like a Rubik's cube." I giggle making him let out a laugh as well. "I guess working with other people makes me feel somewhat needed or important. I know I act like I don't need anyone but it seems like I'm always looking for approval."

"You don't need approval from anyone, you're super talented, you do everything, you help everyone, you're so kind and not judgmental, you're absolutely gorgeous and just the sweetest person I think I've ever met."

My cheeks heat up once again and I look down to hide my face. He can't be serious, I'm honestly gonna cry.

"Thank you, it's a shame no one else sees me like that, not even myself. You're gonna make me cry." My voice is almost in a whisper. I feel my eyes burning and the tears coming I immediately cover my face and try to suck the tears back up. "This world needs more people like you Shawn, you don't understand how much I admire you."

"Same for you. Don't cry, these are happy times, you're working on a song, with me!" He gets all excited to make me smile and I can't help but let out a small laugh. "I know we haven't known each other for long but I really do feel like you're different from everyone else and I'm still trying to figure you out."
