When Rebekah had received that life changing phone call from her desperate Brother, she was terrified and nervous beyond belief. Despite the way the cards were dealt to her, she couldn't help but feel her heart grow as she imagined life with a child. A baby. Something she had always wanted, long before she was betrayed by her own Mother and Father. She felt guilty, though. Especially because of Hayley. She was only able to experience the first two days of her Daughter's life and in a flash was having to send her away to keep her safe from the threats of their enemies.

The moment Niklaus placed Hope in Rebekah's arms, she felt a cloak of warmth and peacefulness drape over her. Something she had never felt in her thousand year old life. Her heart was so full, that it hurt when she looked into the small infants dark little eyes.

Saying goodbye to her family was never easy. She hated running, but this time she hated it a little less, now that she had a sweet and innocent companion constantly watching her every move. She would have to be better now. She had promised Nik she would be safe and happy and that was all that mattered to her now. She thought it would be difficult to adjust to life with a baby, despite her wanting it for so long, but it was as though her brain flipped on a switch that she didn't know existed.

Rebekah had never felt more human in her life. She had thought she knew what love felt like, from the men she had developed relationships with over the course of 11 centuries. But this was something extraordinary. Despite the fact that this child didn't grow inside of her, she had the entirety of her heart and would risk her life to keep her safe from harm.

She would find herself crumbling at the sight of the precious infant, who would fall asleep between her bosom, feeling her rapid little heart beat pound into her own chest. Her heart on top of her heart. She had longed for this feeling, despite the guilt reeling in the back of her mind that Hayley didn't get to experience moments like these.

Her guilt would only grow stronger when she received the shocking news from her brother, Elijah, that Hayley was dead. Killed in a battle between the witches and the vampires brought on by non-other than Niklaus. He blamed himself for Hayley's death, Elijah had told her.

She was angry. This wasn't how this was supposed to be. Niklaus had disappeared, without a word. Elijah and her sister, Freya had worked tirelessly to locate him, but they knew he left on his own accord and didn't want to be found. It was Hope's 1st Birthday.

Rebekah felt as though someone was playing a cruel trick on her. Exactly one year after half of her family was almost wiped it, it happens again, but this time someone was truly gone and the other, vanished without a trace. Her blood boiled and her heart ached, wanting so badly to avenge Hayley, but knowing she was all that Hope had left and couldn't risk her losing another parent.

That's what she had become. Hope's only parent. It was clear that Niklaus wasn't equipped for Fatherhood, despite his previous words of promise to her.

Aside from occasional advice and heartfelt one on one's with Elijah and Freya, Rebekah was officially on her own with Hope. It was scary. She had thought one day she would return Hope to her Mother and Father, yet still be the doting Aunt that she was always meant to be. Though, that wasn't the case anymore and now, little Hope Mikaelson needed her more than ever.
