CHAPTER 6

There was no sign of Niklaus anywhere. He had dashed away before anyone could see his face. Rebekah wasn't sure if he even realized it was Hope in the bed. After Elijah had come back to tell her Niklaus had left, she had crawled into Hope's bed and fell asleep, still in her evening dress, too tired to change, too worried about her Daughter.

Hope had woken back up to a silent compound. She looked to her right to see her Mother sound asleep next to her and slightly chuckled at the fact that she was still in her pretty red dress. She opened the side table drawer quietly to grab her her phone. She realized she hadn't checked it since she arrived and felt terrible for not calling Liv.

When she turned her phone on, she had a series of missed text messages. Most from Liv asking her how everything was going and if she was okay, a few from snotty ones from Jenna and Sam, wondering why she had been ignoring them. Then there was another text from a number she didn't recognize.

[Anonymous]: Got your number from Jenna. Heard you're in New Orleans?

Her heart sank as she began to wonder if it was who she thought it was. She wanted to just ignore it, but her adrenaline and curiosity got the best of her.

[Hope]: Who is this...?

She waited and waited, staring at the bright screen. She didn't want to wake Rebekah, so she crept out of bed and tip toed to the bathroom. By the time she reached it, her phone had buzzed with a new reply.

[Anonymous]: Come on, you know who this is...

Hope's heart was pounding now, but she tried to keep it under control, knowing full-well that a heavy pounding heartbeat would wake Rebekah up in a flash. She took a deep breath and then replied back.

[Hope]: ... Adam?

[Anonymous]: Bingo! So, what's up? I'm gonna be out that way in a few hours. Have family there.

Hope started sweating and her heart rate was rising, knowing that her rapist was going to be near her once again. What blew her mind the most, was that it seemed that Adam didn't think he had done anything wrong. The way he was talking to her was as if he thought they hit it off. He was either extremely hammered or extremely in denial, neither being a valid excuse. There was no excuse for forcing yourself on someone who didn't want to be touched.
