                Rusty's POV

For about four months now I have been hiding my engagement ring and tonight everyone is supposed to be going to my parents house for a party. I've been here since eight this morning...only because the twins and I were alone and I didn't want to be cooped up anymore. My mom made it clear that I could drink if I really wanted to but I don't. I know how I am when drunk and it's not the best.

Darkness falls as everyone arrives and starts drinking. I go outside and see Tyler and Ashlee pull in. I start walking towards the car when Tyler gets out with a regretful face. I scrunch my brows together and look at him. Tyler looks at me and frowns.

"Somehow Ashlee and I are engaged..."

"I hate you Tyler!" I yell in frustration as Tyler shoved his hands into his front pockets. "I should've known you would do this to me..."

"It's not what you think, Rusty, baby, come on."

Tears come to my eyes as I stare at him. "I was drunk when she dragged me to a store and bought the ring and slid it on her finger...I'm sorry, Rusty, I really am."

"I don't care." I pull the ring off and throw it at him. "Don't ever try to get with me or have sex with me again! Whatever we have it's done."

I storm off inside and take the twins to my room and lay down with them as I cry.

I don't know how long the twins and I have been in here but many people have came and went from the room. I climb off the bed and put pillows around the twins and turn the lights on dim. I make my way to the bathroom. I glance into the mirror and cringe.

I quickly wash and dry my face. I make my way back into the bed room when I see a girl with long black hair in a ponytail sitting on the bed caressing Haven's chubby cheeks.

"You know you could've called me and told me your mom gave you Nan's house...I've been wanting it but you deserve it more now that you have children." I stay still as she continues to rub Haven's cheeks. "What happened to us? We were so close and drifted apart..."

"You moved away...I lost almost all of my friends once you did." I take a deep breath. "All I had was Carli and now I don't even have her. All I have is the twins and I'm happy with that."

"I'm moving back but I have no where to stay..."

Lehlani is my mom's sisters daughter. Our Nan disowned my aunt and her small family. "You can stay with me...it's just us three and it gets boring." She nods. Lehlani stands up and looks at me. I lightly smile as she moves to the door.

"Thanks...it'll be a few weeks before I make it there but I will be with you again."

My mom came and took the twins and told me to go have some fun. The fire warms my toes and legs as I wrest my arms the top of my knees. I feel someone graze against me and I glance at them and they smile at me.

"So what's a pretty lady like you doing sitting on the floor in front of this fireplace?" I look at him.

"I'm just thinking is all." He smiles brightly.

"What's your name?" I bite my lips and then look down at my feet.

"Rusty and yours?" I look back at him.

"Reece."

His dark curls cover some of his brace but not a lot. He is very handsome gives me the jitters and maybe some butterflies. He has fierce blue eyes and a perfect sharp jawline.

"Rusty, let me take you on a date..." I snap out of my thoughts and look at him with wide eyes. "I'll give you my number and you can tex me so I can have yours..."

"Okay..." I sheepishly reply as I pull out my phone from my pocket. I hand him my phone and he puts his name in and then hands it back. I quickly text him and his phone beeps.

"I'll text you the deets later but for now let's get to know each other."

I nod.

"Where do we start?" He smiles.

"Do you have any kids?" I bite my lip and then smile.

"I do. I have twins...a boy and a girl." He smiles widely.

"I have a little girl."
