CHRISTINA
The only reason I'm grateful that the Dauntless allow every family outside of the faction to visit on Visiting Day is because I miss Rose. If it weren't for her, I would probably hide in a corner in hopes that they don't see me, if they even bother to show up this time. They must think that, since I'm now a full Dauntless member, they don't have to come anymore. A part of me hopes they don't, but then I wouldn't get to see Rose.

This sucks.

Today is the day. The Pit is full of people of all factions. All colors swirl together and it's louder than ever before. Laughs and giggles bounce off the walls. The new initiates stumble around to find their parents, and when they do, some burst into tears.

There's a new girl, very small and shy, whose Erudite parents are fawning over. Her mom licks her thumb and swipes it over her daughter's cheek.

"Mom! That's gross!" she cries, wiping it off.

"Get that shit off your face!" It's now that I realize she's wearing makeup and her mom doesn't like it.

Reminds me of my mom.

Speaking of my mom, I don't even see her around. Instead Tris bounces up to me and kisses my cheek. She's in an awfully good mood and it's scary.

"Hey. Are your parents here?" I ask, brushing my lips to hers for a second.

"Not yet, but they're coming," she replies, grinning like this is the best day ever. "Where's yours?"

"I'm not sure they're coming."

She sees the way I turn sad and my lips she loves to kiss are tucked in a frown. She sighs and kisses my forehead, since that's the only part of my face she can touch without snapping her own neck. Before I know it, she pulls me to her.

"Are you gonna tell them about us?" I mumble into her shirt. "It's been almost a year."

A year. Almost. Fifty weeks, to be exact. Two weeks after last year's Visiting Day, we shared our first awkward kiss, and it was all uphill from there. No looking back.

"I probably will," she says. "I hope your sister comes. I know she'd love to see you."

Tears spring into my eyes. I miss Rose so much, and knowing she might not come because of our stuck-up mother kills me. I just want to hug her and talk to her until they're forced to leave.

"Beatrice!" I hear a soft voice calling Tris's name--her birth name. It's so weird to hear it coming from someone's lips, like it doesn't belong.

Tris's head snaps up and she looks behind her. She breaks out into a grin, kisses my cheek, and sprints off to see an older Abnegation couple waving at her. I'm suddenly empty and alone, and I wallow in my own pity, walking around the Pit to see if I can find Rose.

Four is leaning up against a diminishing pillar, with a mug in his hand. It's probably alcohol. I want to ask him for a sip, but he'd probably knock me upside the head with the metal mug. He's not as scary as he used to be, but still, he will always be above me. Then again, he could be worse. He could be like. . .Eric.

I don't want to remember that day.

When I stop by the pillars blanketed in graffiti, someone calls my name. I whip around and come face to face with my mother. I look past her, as far as I can being so short. Rose is there, her head craned to the ceiling to admire it. Her hair is much longer and she's matured in the face.

"Chrissy!" Rose squeals, running towards me with arms to the sky.

I gather her in my arms and hug her tight as Mom looks on with a frown. She gets jealous when she thinks someone doesn't want to see her. She's Candor, so she should have no problem accepting the fact that not everyone wants to be her friend.
