Tristan stared into giant green eyes as he was stuck against this giant creature and the stone wall. The creature had its huge hand on his chest all claws not planing to retract any time soon. It's eyes were angry. Tristan could see his reflection in its pupils. He didn't get to see the entire creature only it's face. The creature was covered in a mixture of fur, scales and feathers. On the tip of each black feather was a blue tinge. The animal hissed and opened its mouth. It roared a high pitch scream at Tristan's face. He could see a mass of sharp teeth. It then met eyes with him again and leaped away. Tristan didn't see what body features it had but he knew it leaped out of the vine roof leading to the forest above. "Ahh, oh..." He was cut short of his expression as he collapsed on the floor in front of him passing out.
About half an hour later Tristan woke and stood up shocked. He realised what just happened and ran out of the cave. He looked at Alice's key and thought about going and telling her. With all his curiosity though he put the key around his neck and ran into the forest. He heard another roar and ran towards the noise. Tristan came across an open area in the forest. He climbed a tree to see the whole area. Reaching the top he looked down to see the giant creature again. This time he got to see the entire thing. Short neck, bold head, long tail. Huge crow like wings. Scales on the bottom of each of its four stubby legs and the end of its nose leading down it's back. Feathers taking place in its short black fur. On the end of its tail was bat like wings that folded out. The creature looked up to him with its green eyes the same colour as Tristan's. It tilted its head slightly. Tristan stared at it as his eyes widened. Before he could think the branch he was standing on broke and he fell. "AHHHHHH!" He screamed. Before he hit the ground he hit something fury. His eyes closed as he felt wind against his face. He opened them slowly and noticed he was a thousand feet in the air. "Oh no! Oh no oh no oh no! He yelled looking down. He looked at what he was sitting on the see the giant creature look back at him. It growled. Tristan thought about how high up he was and grabbed a handful of fur on the back of the creatures neck hanging on for his life. The creature went higher and higher until it stopped. Tristan's eyes widened as it started to fall. It shot straight towards the land. Before it hit it pulled up spinning over the trees. "AHHHH!" He screamed hanging on tighter. The creature stopped and glided gently down. Tristan leaped off running for his life.
He stopped noticing nothing was following him and turned around to see the creature sitting with its head tilted with wide puppy eyes. Tristan looked at it as it purred. He walked over to it, heart pumping fast. The creature backed up a bit. "What are you?" He asked looking at it. Tristan felt calmer now knowing it wasn't going to kill him. He reached his hand out gently and the creature growled harshly back. He looked away hoping he could trust it and the creature didn't only let him touch it but the creature pushed him to the ground and started licking his face. "Ewww, eww, ew! Awww, gross!" Tristan complained standing up and wiping the spit off him.
"Grrmmm." It growled. Tristan smiled his strange side smile and the creature looked at him strange. It then smiled back, or tried to smile back. Tristan was amazed. He then noticed he was staring into they eyes of a dragon. Or a to be dragon. He took a closer look remembering what a Night Fury looked like and noticed it almost looked identical. Other than the feathered wings and fur it was practically the same.
"This can't be happening." He told himself staring at the dragon staring back at him. The dragon tilted its head again showing eight ear like things on the back of its head. "I have to be dreaming." He tried to convince himself.
"ALICE!" He yelled banging down her door. He left the dragon in the cave and told it not to go anywhere so it just sat there waiting. "ALICE, PLEASE ANSWER!"
"WHAT!" She answered the door. Tristan grabbed her hand and pulled her out of her house. "What is going on?"
"DRAGON! I found a dragon. My mum got an owl and the owl opened the last symbol. I walked through the door and there is a Night Fury. I'm not kidding. Other than it has feathers and fur it has the exact same body features!" He yelled running towards the door. Alice walked in and saw just an empty cave.
"Tristan I think you imagined it." She said turning around and looking at him as if he was crazy.
"No really he was right here!" He persuaded. "I opened the door with your key, I found it on the floor. You must have dropped it." He continued handing her the key.
"Look, Tristan. You need to stop this. It was fun at first discovering the book and our ancestors, knowing dragons existed but they don't exist anymore! I'm sorry Tristan but this door was probably only put here to lead to the book. And your grandfather probably found the book then. You need to let this dragon thing go now." She said putting her hand on his shoulder.
"Alice, but I'm not lying. It really was here." He said softly. Alice shook her head and walked out of the cave. Tristan stood there watching her leave with his head down. He knew he saw a dragon. He didn't dream it.
A few seconds later the dragon flew in with a fish in its mouth. "Oh, so now you show up!" He yelled sarcastically at the dragon in front of him as it gave him an innocent look. "Your like a phantom. You here one moment and then gone the next." He said patting its head. "So, friends?" Tristan asked it. It nodded its head and gave him the fish. "Ewww, oh thanks buddy. You can keep it. Enjoy." It took the fish back and swallowed it. "Stay here. I'll be back. I need to go home. Just don't let anyone see you and I'll be back tomorrow. Ok Phantom?" He talked to the dragon he now named Phantom thinking about a name to give it as quick as possible. It nodded its head and shot a fire ball at the wood pile in the middle of the cave. "Wow! Far out. I didn't know you could breath fire too." Tristan said stepping back. Phantom curled himself up in front of the fire going to sleep. "Congratulations Tristan you have a pet dragon." He talked to himself sarcastically.
