the hunter.
he was a little under six feet. sun kissed skin and black hair. he rarely smiled- finding no amusement in his work and the people whom he spend many hours of the day with.
his task was simple, yet the hardest one he had gotten all year. but nothing was hard for him, in fact everything was a matter of logic but sometimes he couldn't think straight. he was only 18 when he was recruited. he's 19 now, and he's his boss's boss. he's everyone's boss. and it's all because of logic.
but he still has orders. because even the boss has a boss and his is the man. the president.
"his name is unknown. location unknown. everything you need to find him is gone- why? because i pay a bunch of people to bullshit and not get anything done. but you? i pay you to get shit done." the man spoke with a heavy gwanghwamun accent.
"you have nothing?" the hunter corrected
"nothing. not shit. so your job is to get it- go to Busan and find him. find the man who's killed over 114 people in 3 years."
"114?"
"yup, that's how much our police force works. shows how much they care about korea."
"but surely.." the hunter chose his words carefully since it was Busan's front line he was bad mouthing, "surely they would have gotten something? all those murders and no evidence. no suspects. no witnesses."
"the 114 include the witness, suspects and anyone else who may have known something. that bastard got to everyone and killed them before we could question them."
the hunter sighed and lowered his head. Busan wasn't that big- it was bigger than where he was from but it wasn't that big. there were so many people though. any one could get in and out- and whose to say there isn't more than one murderer.
"you have by the end of the month to give me a name, understand kim?"
"yes sir."
;
he had left the house upon conversing with a rather middle aged woman. her walls were lined with photos of one child as he grew up through the years. the most recent one was off a sun kissed boy with red hair and a boxy smile.
he knew him all too well.
"it was a pleasure meeting you." she forced a smile, even though it wasn't a pleasure. what the hunter asked of her was something you should never ask a mother but he had a job to do even if that meant burning bridges and breaking bonds. his job would be done.
he bowed as he walked away and headed to his car where he sat for a moment. "such a small world." he chuckled and drove off.
when he returned home, his house was empty. not a trace of his fiancé who might still be at work. owning a cafe wasn't easy work and it showed. he often came home tired and crashed on the couch, not even able to make it to the bed.
they had seen less and less of each other these day but there love was still alive and well. their time apart only made their time together so much more memorable.
kim poured a glass of bourbon in a small cup and sat at his work desk. he drank it slowly, letting the taste resonate with his taste buds as he looked through the stack of missing people reports. all of the range from age 15-49. there were no young children and no elders. all missing, no bodies found at-
"kim, we found a body." there wasn't even a knock on the door. chanyeol just barged in like he always did.
"what do you mean?"
"a case involving lucifer."
"that's what you're calling him?" kim asks. he stands up and cracks his back. he then slips on some slides, ready to follow chanyeol to his room too see the news. "you kill a hundred people and suddenly you're satan? wonder what they would've called hitler."
"i didn't name him, boss- doesn't matter. they found the body of a cop that works on the 13 providence."
"okay and..?"
"well if you find a body in a river, you drag the whole thing? right?"
kim nodded.
"96 bodies were pulled up 15 miles from the bridge."
"what!" kim was no longer straight faced
"yup! and get this, they're still pulling up more as we speak. boss said he wouldn't be surprised if that sick bastard dumped all his victims down there."
"but did you bring in suspects the other day?"
chanyeol nodded but then they both had a sudden realization.
"we swept the fucking lake!" kim yelled and threw a fist at the wall, "goddammit!"
they swept the lake. the entire lake. something like that doesn't go unseen my the people. and word gets around fast in the small city. meaning the killer knows that the lake had been swept and he knew that he could no longer dump bodies in that lake.
or so they thought.
because the killer was dumping his friends father into the lake as they speak.
