they were at Jungkook's car when the building exploded. cement fly high into the air, the explosion shook the ground and the flames sent warmth even from this distant.
"i've killed Jimin once before but this time feels different."
"let's not talk about it." Jungkook forces a smile and starts the car.
;
they drove in silence. they would have to leave korea. they couldn't stay obviously. about five hours til they reached the beach and they would take a boat to japan. from there they would fly to australia and work things out. Jungkook's only objective was to keep Taehyung safe no matter the price.
the car let out a gentle hum as Jungkook drove along the country side. every few miles he stole glances at Taehyung who slept with his head rested against the window. his red hair had faded to a weird brownish red mix but still looked nice on him.
his skin was smoother and he seemed to be enjoying his dream. Jungkook smiled, hoping for better days.
if he had met Taehyung in another life, one where he worked at a cafe or something and Taehyung came often, then things would be better. one where they started off as friends and grew to be lovers. where they would go to movies and dates on the beach. one where they could have a family and take their children to school and kiss them goodbye when they graduated and moved out. one where they could meet their grandkids, one where they could grow old and die in peace.
"w-why are you crying?"
Jungkook pulled over and let out long painful sobs. he began to feel again. everything he had been bottling away, everything he didn't want to feel. every ounce of guilt and shame. every drop of sadness, it just washed over him like a tidal wave til he was shaking violently and choking on his own tears.
he couldn't do it anymore.
Taehyung stepped out of the car and walked to the other side. he opened the drivers door and immediately Jungkook threw himself from the seat and cling to Taehyung as he sobbed.
"we won't ever be normal."
"i know." Taehyung rubbed his finger through Jungkook's hair.
"i stole your life from you, you can't ever have a real life."
"i know." Taehyung continued to play with his hair.
"we can't ever go out in public, or make friends."
"i know~"
"w-why are you so calm!"
"because." Taehyung smiled and kissed Jungkook's nose, "i have you, and that's all i need."
"i love you."
Taehyung freezes. did he hear that correctly. there's no way. absolutely no way. "say it again."
"no, get in the car asshole." Jungkook wipes his tear and sniffles gently before getting back into the car.
Taehyung followed him and took a seat and buckled his seat belt. "i love you too." the red head replied after a moment. Jungkook slowly began to drive off with a content smile on his face.
,
a few hours later, the sun had set and it was past midnight. Jungkook had pulled over to a motel and paid cash, leaving his name as Lee Kiwon.
he was back to feeling nothing and was glad, hoping it would stay this way. he hated crying and how much it made his head hurt after.
Taehyung sleepily walked into the motel and flopped down on the bed. "i'm going for a smoke." Jungkook said as he glanced around the room.
it was filled with instant ramen and bottled water. convenient enough.
"you don't smoke."
"you don't question my actions, yet here we are."
Taehyung smiled and hugged the pillow to his chest as he drifted to sleep.
Jungkook smiled and kissed Taehyung forehead before heading out and closing the door behind him.
;
when Taehyung woke up, the sun shone through the curtain, and Jungkook was cuddled up beside him. the crown of his black hair poked out the top of the blanket as he clung onto Taehyung as if he would leave while he slept.
Taehyung smiled and brushed Jungkook's hair. a life like this couldn't be so bad. running constantly didn't seem so bad either if the breaks were like this. Taehyung could live like this forever if it meant he was with Jungkook.
Jungkook shuffled in his sleep. he brought his head above the blanket, twitching his nose slightly before opening his eyes. he seemed to panicked for a second until he locked eyes with Taehyung. then he smiled gently and rested his head on Taehyung's chest.
he wanted to scream "i love you" a million times and kiss him to his hearts content but opted on hugging him closer instead.
"g'morning." Taehyung smiled and drew circles on Jungkook's back with his finger.
"good morning." Jungkook mumbled back. he was awake fully but left his eyes closed. his fingers automatically locked with Taehyung's and he didn't even try to hide the smile that crept along his face. "you look beautiful."
"you're not even looking at me." Taehyung giggled
"i know, but it doesn't matter cos i know you still look beautiful." this time Jungkook opened his eyes and stared deeply at Taehyung.
the sound of a phone ringing ruined their peace filled morning. "i thought you didn't bring your phone?"
"i didn't." Taehyung shook his head and glanced at the hotel phone. sure enough it was ringing. "do i answer it."
Jungkook shrugged, brushing it off as nothing. Taehyung grabbed the phone and hit the green phone icon, "hello?"
"Taehyung baby, stay as far away from home as possible." his mother sobbed into the line.
"what th-"
"ah Taehyung, i always believe in an eye for an eye.."
Jungkook noticed the change in Taehyung's voice and was now standing beside him, "what the hell do you want?"
"you took two important people from me, now i will take the only woman important to you."
"don't you fucking hurt her."
"don't tell me what to do! i'm giving orders now, and i want you back at your house before sun down, if not, mom goes for a joy ride. the destination will be busan river."
the line ended and Taehyung was shaking with anger as he grabbed the keys and stormed off to the car.
"hey." Jungkook called after him, "baby what's wrong?"
"it's fucking Hoseok, he's got my mom."
