Valentina's POV

After he left, I decided to try and at least get any sleep. I laid down onto my bed and just passed out. By the time I woke up, it was two p.m. Haha whoops. I quickly got up, brushed my teeth, and then put some clothes on. I walked out of my room, and as I did, I walked past Luca's room, seeing it was empty. I looked around the whole house seeing these new things that I probably wouldn't get a chance to explore again. After concluding that Stefano and Luca weren't here, I decided to go talk to Anna.

"Hey, Anna, where are the guys?" She looked at me worriedly. "Are they okay?" I asked reading her face.

"They're alright. Some mafia stuff. I absolutely hate what they do. But I always get the same excuse. "It's for Angelo. Or it's for my dad." Oh. They must've felt obligated to take over for Luca's father. "Oh. I mean maybe at the same time it is. You all must've loved the Alfonso family very much. I see it in all of your faces." That took the worried look she was wearing away and beamed a smile at me.

"Glad I could make you smile. What are you doing?" I ask as she whisked away at some batter.

"I'm making a cake. I heard your birthday is tomorrow and thought let's make the small stuff for you." She said with a big smile. Oh, yeah. My birthday. It was tomorrow. I haven't been able to enjoy my birthday since I was like nine. It'd be ten years tomorrow. That's when I remembered everything. I really didn't want to, or mean to, but I fell onto the ground and started crying. Softly.

"Oh dear. Did I say something wrong, Val? I'm so sorry if I did. Here come here." She said putting her hand out. I grabbed it, and she pulled me onto my feet. Then greeted me with a big hug. Gosh did that feel really good at the moment? "Why are you crying amore mio?" I finally controlled the crying into just sniffles.

"My b-birthday. Its the uh, day my 'brother' had killed my family. They were his first kill. But I was only nine. I turn nineteen t-tomorrow and it'll be t-ten years." I started crying onto her shoulder. She only hugged me tighter. "Oh, my babe. I'm so sorry. You don't deserve that." I started to feel some tears, but they weren't from me. "Oh Anna, I didn't mean to make you cry I'm sorry." We both let out a small laugh. "Let's stop crying, and get baking? I heard you're quite the baker?"

I beamed at her. "I actually am, who told you?" I was hoping it was Luca. And I don't know why. "Luca did, he said that you and Stel had a bake-off or whatever, and your cookies were the best he'd ever had." I couldn't stop the smiling growing on my lips. I also couldn't help the feeling of a million butterflies swarming around my stomach. "Well thank you," I say happily. "You make cookies while I make the cake?" I nodded her way to say yes. And with that, we started to bake.

About three hours passed. I made about sixty cookies. It was a total accident, but knowing me, I always ate like three cookies at a time so it'd be fine. Anna made two cakes, chocolate, and vanilla, because vanilla was mine and the twins favorite flavor, while everyone else liked chocolate. I thought that it was kinda funny.

It was five p.m. and the boys still weren't there. Anna and Stella reassured me as this was normal. Stella came in about halfway through our baking session just talking and putting smiles on everyone's face. I really like the women in this family. Yes, I considered them all family. Family didn't always mean by blood. But it was how they treated each other. How much they loved each other, and how they protected each other so much. I envied them, but also being around all this positivity was good for me. I loved it.

"I'm going to watch some t.v. in my room, I'll talk to you later," Stella said pulling my arm to go with her.

"Alright, be out by seven girls, dinner will be ready." We both said okay at the same time. We looked at each other laughed, and then went to Stel's room. "Why'd I get dragged all the way here?" I said annoying her. "You missy didn't tell me your birthday was tomorrow." I looked at her, and then just shrugged. "I've never liked my birthday, why celebrate if I'm not going to enjoy it?" Her jaw was clenched together. I didn't annoy her that much did I? Whoops. Heh.
