Chapter 2

Daya woke up on Saturday at one p.m. because she had no plans or no job and didn't see the point of waking up early for no reason. She brushed her teeth and packed up all the hair that had come out as she slept roughly at night, as she always does, into a messy bun. She then went to the kitchen to have brunchfast, she laughed as she began to remember when she created the name and how Butch thought it was incredibly stupid, but she knew he secretly liked it and has even heard him use it a few times subconsciously. She took her bowl of cereal, which she had mixed five different types of cereal together, back to her room and sat in front of her laptop that she never turns off unless it overheats. She began to check her email then saw a reply from the only job she was interested in that she had applied for, the topic read "interview" and the email read

"Hey Daya,

I saw your brief yet detailed application and decided to invite you for an interview.

I know this is short timing, but I would like you to come for the interview on Sunday at 3 p.m.,

Dress appropriately yet casually.

This would be a brief interview and you would be told if you got the job immediately after.

You would be sent an address the morning of the interview if you confirm your attendance.

Tammy Dexter.".

Daya jumped off her chair excitedly then immediately after, fear kicked in as she realized the interview was tomorrow and the email had come in yesterday. She sent a confirmation email then took a quick shower, dressed up quickly and ran to the mall because she had no clothes that would be appropriate for an interview because she wore mostly jeans and t-shirts. She went to few stores and came out of the mall with a twenty-dollar black suit trousers and a ten-dollar white button up shirt with floral patterns that was on sale. She went home and tried the clothes, she didn't try them at the stores because she hated dressing rooms and the idea of taking off her clothes in a public place. The clothes fit almost perfectly, she just had a problem with the trousers because they were too long, she fixed the problem by folding the end and sewing it with a needle and thread as she was taught in Nigeria.

She then read the ending part of a book she had borrowed from the library then called Butch to walk her to the library to return it. Her and Butch barely made it, as the library was to close in five minutes when they got there, they returned the book and walked to the Italian restaurant they both loved for dinner. Butch was from a wealthy family, so he didn't really need to work but his wealth wasn't visible in his appearance, he ordered some wine for them as they ate. Daya hesitated to accept but Butch persuaded her and explained that the wine was congratulations for the interview and was a gift and she had to accept it. So, they drank wine and ate pasta which Daya loved a lot, Daya began to narrate the latest book she had read to Butch as she does any time they ate together, Butch never reads but likes stories, this was one of the reasons their friendship went so well. Other things he liked about Daya was that she never asks for anything and is always content as long as she can pay rent or eat food. He admired that about her and really did enjoy her company, he was awaken from his thinking trance as Daya snapped her fingers at him asking if he was listening to her, he immediately told her he wasn't for a while and that the last thing he heard was her complain about the ending of the book as she talked about the middle. This made Daya laugh as she realised she had just forgotten she wasn't talking about the end, she apologized then continued talking about the middle of the book but still somehow jumped to the end, Butch smiled as she didn't notice.

Butch walked her home, he had a car but rarely drove it because Daya preferred to walk because it is safer, and it allows you think and make conversation as she once explained to him, she wasn't a big fan of cars and always believed they would end her life someday. He came in with her and they watched an episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S together over coffee and commentary about every scene even though they both liked the show. Butch left at ten p.m. because Daya kicked him out because she wanted to sleep because of her interview the next day. She got into her pyjamas then laid in bed for about two hours before texting Butch to come back because she knew he would be awake and was probably doing nothing important, he texted her that he would be there in about ten minutes and he was, because he moved out of his parents' house and decided to take an apartment close to hers. He drove there then knocked on her door and as she opened it, he made a witty comment about how she missed him already, Daya was prepared for it and told him how he missed her too and that was why he was at her door in his pyjamas. He came in and she googled "maid interview questions", Butch laughed as he saw it on her screen and convinced her to wing it before she even clicked enter. He helped her practice for a while then got her phone and shuffled her music and they danced and acted to the mixtures of pop, hip hop, RnB and alternative songs that he swears he hates.

After that they talked for a while about Butch's newest romantic interest, Daya told him he would tell her of a new one by next week and he nodded in agreement because he knew it was true, he wanted to ask her about her love life but didn't because he knew it was a touchy subject for her based on her past relationships and if she did have someone she would tell him. Daya then kicked him out the second time as it was midnight, she promised she wasn't calling him back again as they shared a short side hug. Daya didn't want to kick him out but she had to because she loved to sleep and knew if she didn't sleep sometime soon, a disaster would come up tomorrow somehow. She turned off her lights, set an alarm for twelve p.m. then shuffled Alternative music, she was asleep twenty minutes later.
