The Midnites-Vampire

Chapter Eleven

At the palace, Daralez was sitting by the indoor pool watching Newstar as she played in the shallows along with Firebird, but he could find no pleasure in watching his daughters as she usually did as he still worried about Durnaa and Nova and that.

Verena sensing his distress came up to her husband "what's up?" she asked.

"I wish those kids hadn't disobeyed me" he said, "I don't like this Verena what if the vampire kidnaps them as well?"

"We have to hope that he does not" she said.

"I can't believe this happened, I've always ruled the kingdom fairly and I didn't think I had any enemies! and now this happens!"

"You couldn't have known" she said.

"Does this mean I have to place a bodyguard on each of my children now? I've never wanted to do that! I always thought that they were safe! and now a vampire has kidnapped one of my sons! have I been so careless and complacent?"

Verena said, "they are still safe, a vampire is a supernatural being, he probably would have managed to kidnap Durnaa even if he was assigned a bodyguard! you saw what happened to Starsinger? she was guarding Durnaa's bed when he was kidnapped and even she couldn't stop him!"

"I know" he said, "I don't want to have to place a bodyguard on my children on my own palace grounds!"

"You probably won't have to" she said, "the searchers will probably kill the vampire".

"But what if they don't?" he asked.

"We'll cross that bridge when and if we come to it" she said, "do not distress yourself my husband".

The door opened with a slam and both Phoenix and Krusa barreled in, talking at the top of their voices and they both dive bombed into the pool, thus upsetting the two little girls, both went under with a squeal, but both quickly resurfaced again, Firebird holding her little sister.

"Boys! not so boisterous please!" Daralez said "your upset your two littlest sisters who can't swim as well as you yet".

Phoenix said, "sorry Daddy".

"Just be careful next time" Daralez said "your two youngest sisters can't swim as well as you yet".

"Ok Dad I remember" Krusa said "Phoenix you do so too!"

Phoenix made a face but said "Ok".

Daralez chuckled and ruffled his youngest sons fair curls "you'll have to learn how to accept and follow rules Phoenix".

Phoenix removed his father's hand from his curls, scowling as he did so, he was at that age when he didn't want to be treated like a little kid.

Krusa said "I don't think he liked that Dad".

"Sorry 'Nix'" Daralez said "just be more careful you two, Firebird and Newstar are too young to be tipped up like that and neither of them can fly like you can yet, and none of you can fly like Sunlazer and Durnaa can".

"How come those two can fly like that and the rest of us can't?" Krusa asked.

"Beats me" Daralez said "Durnaa and Sunlazer seem to have something extra to the rest of us, and that's why Durnaa's gotten into this mess because of that something extra".

Krusa sighed "why does Durnaa have that something extra?"

"I don't know" Daralez said.

"I can fly like Durnaa!" said Firebird, levitating herself and Newstar out of the pool.
