MINAL'S POV.
All eyes were on me as I took in a deep breath and began...........
My name is Amina Sagir Alkali . My late dad is from Adamawa state while my mum is a Sudanese. We base in Lagos and I'm their only daughter with two brothers.""Which Sagir Alkali are you talking of? The famous one? " Mama asked with wide eyes and I nodded.
"Allahu Akbar" daddy said nodding and then I turned my attention to Umar's mum who was now squeezing my hand she has been holding since. We made eye contacts and she smiled at me before I quickly looked away.
"What happened on the day the accident happened? " Daddy asked.
"I guess you weren't your normal self because you started to cross the road without caution " he added.
The inner me groaned at this question. Can't they just understand I'm just recovering and the questions are to much for me. The pain in my head was getting worse and I don't think I'll be able to say what I can remember happened."What happened to her? Is she still alive? If she is then why didn't she look for me?
"I can't really remember" I said with a shaky voice fighting the tears that were about streaming down my cheeks. The doctor came in with two other nurses and requested for everyone to leave. As expected, Umar Faruk the last person to leave. I kept staring at his back until he was out of my sight. After thousands of questions about if there was any pain, I was given some injections which made me drift to sleep in less than ten minutes.
I woke up feeling much better as I sat up and rubbed my eyes with both hands to have a better view. We made eye contacts with the older woman who is at the other side of the room. She was on the phone and was talking in a very low tune.
"He looks so much like her. Masha Allah" I thought biting my nails. When I say "he", I mean my Umar. He looks so much like his mother who has been with me ever since I was brought to the hospital.
" How are you feeling Minal " she asked coming towards me. I looked up and smiled at her.
"I'm feeling better Mama. Alhamdulillah"
"Tou Masha Allah. Allah ya kara sauki" she said rubbing my back.
We talked for hours where she told me Daddy's plan to reach my mother. Ya Rabb. "I just pray she's alive and healthy. I pray I didn't loose her" I silently muttered.
The annoying doctor who has been checking me out came in and my mood instantly changed. He has been flirting with me ever since I was admitted and he's always coming to check on me every now and then .
"Hello beauty. How are you feeling? " he asked with a smile plastered on his face. "He's so cute but annoying " I said but only to myself.
"Alhamdulillah" I replied looking down at my pretty nails. "Any pains"he asked placing his hand on my forehead which made me shiver.
"No" I quickly replied shaking my head.
"Masha Allah" he said writing down some stuffs. I could feel his gaze on me.Third person's pov
She let out a sigh as she placed her hand bag on the bed then started to pace. "It just can't be. Is Minal Sagir Alkali's daughter? " Mama continued to ask her self. "Where were her eyes that she couldn't see the resemblance?" She asked herself. Had she known this earlier, then the past wouldn't have happened. There would have been no past to regret.
"Mama!"a called knocking softly on the door. "Mama you in there? " she called again and this time louder and banged harder on the door.
"I'm coming Amma" Mama said as she used the hem of her dress to wipe her tears.
"Ya Salam! Mama! " Amma screamed. "Your eyes are red. We're you crying? " she asked with her eyes fixed on her mother's.
"Haba Amma. Why should I be crying. I was on the phone and laughed so hard that I started to cry" Mama said rubbing squeezing Amma's hand.
"Can we go in? " Amma asked calmly. She held her mother's hand and after locking the door, she led her to the bed.
"Mama please tell me. What's wrong? " she asked.
"There's nothing wrong Amma. I told you what happened" Mama said avoiding her daughter's gaze.
"For goodness sake Mama, if you don't share your problems with me then who will you share it with? " Amma asked squeezing Mama's hand. " I can see it in your eyes Mama. There's something bothering you" Amma pleaded.
"It's fine Amma. I'll tell you." Mama said and then took in a deep breath. "I know Minal's Father." she finally said after what seemed like forever.
"What?! " Amma asked with her eyes wide open. "Tell me everything Mama. I want to know. "
"Well, Sagir is my cousin whom I loved so much. I was madly in love with Sagir and it got to a point that our family members got to know about it . My parent also wanted thing things to work out between Sagir and I because we all knew he was the right person for me. And same thing applies to his parents, they wanted me to be their daughter in law.
Sagir Alkali went to study in Sudan and forgetting the fact that he already has someone, he came home with the topic that he has gotten a wife in Sudan. I know I should have known that things couldn't work out between us because Sagir never showed me he was interested but I was too obsessed with him to back off.
Sagir got married to his Sudanese girl and that was how the bond between the two families broke." she concluded wiping her face with her palms.
" I got married to your father two months later and since then, I I only hear of Sagir Alkali around and I see him on the t. V till the day I heard of his death. " she added.
"Was that why you maltreated Minal? " Amma asked her mother. "No Amma. Had I known Minal's true identity, then I would've done worse than that. She wouldn't have spent a night in this house. No wonder I never liked her for a second" Mama said breaking her knuckles.
"Please Mama, forget about the past and moreover, his dead. I like Minal Mama. She's a nice girl. " Amma pleaded with her mum.
"Just shut up Amma before I'll make you regret why you were given birth by me. I want you to break all relationships with Minal. And before you say a word, just get out of my room" She said pointing at the door.Meanwhile, Minal and her new found love were having a good time. She was staring at her already chewed nails while he was staring at her.
"Are you shy of me? " he asked. "Urrgh" she groaned. "I wish he could just leave me. " she said inside her.
"I was considering discharging you tomorrow but since you've not fully recovered, we'll leave that till further notice. She quickly looked up and met up with his wild grin. "I don't understand what you mean by I haven't fully recovered. Can't you see I'm fine? " she asked rolling her eyes at him.
"Have I ever told you your look so breathtaking when you roll your eyes? " he asked smirking making her roll her eyes again but this time, he didn't get to see it because her face was turned.
