"Amma!" Hajiya called as she descended from the stairs. "na'am mummy" Amma replied rushing out of the kitchen. "Go and get ready, we're going to Fati's house."
Amma froze, unable to move a finger. Why is her mum going to Fati's house? She has this feeling that it's not for a good reason.
"I'm sorry mum I can't go. I have issues I have to settle with Fati but that will be another day. Probably after the wedding. " she said and went back to what she was doing.
"A wedding that would never hold" she muttered and grabbed her handbag. Amma couldn't continue what she was doing. It's just a week to the wedding and she doesn't think her mother can ruin it because it's very close. "Then what's she going to do there?" she asked herself. "Ya Allah!Dont let my mother succeed in ruining this wedding if she intends to. "
As she finally got back to what she was doing, she couldn't stop thinking of the fact that her mother is probably sitting with Fati's mother. Now she regrets not going along with her. She hurried up and rushed upstairs where she had a quick shower and got dressed in a black fitted gown with blue and red patterns. She grabbed her phone, bag and key. She has to go after her mother and maybe they would able to work out things with Fati's.
She met "Assalamu alaikum" she said after retreating backwards for like a hundred time before she finally gathered up the courage to walk into her bestie's room. She met her packing and Amma wondered where she would be traveling to.
"Hi" Fati said not sparing her a glance. "This isn't going to be as easy as I thought" Amma said to her self. She dropped her bag and veil on the bed then headed to where Fati was. "Uhmm let me help you." Amma said squeezing her hand as she waited for her friend's reply. Without asking word, Fati moved giving Amma some space. Packing wasn't her things so she gladly gave in.
Amma was done in about ten minutes but she couldn't move from where she was. Fati was making the atmosphere really weird which made Amma totally forget her main purpose of coming. "Thank you" Fati muttered and continued smiling at her phone.
"Uhmm.. " Amma started. "You see Fati, I'm really sorry for what happened. It wasn't actually my fault. I... "
" ...It's OK Amma. Let's not talk about it" Fati interrupted now searching on her bed for her charger. "You aren't mad at me? " Amma asked calmly. Fati stopped what she was doing and fixed her gaze on someone she once called her best friend. Someone she confided in.
" I have every right to be Amma. But maybe with time." she said with a hint of anger in her voice. "I'm so sorry things.... " Amma started to apologize again.
"Like seriously?! " Fati cut in. I just don't want to hear anything concerning that and I can't assure you our friendship is going to be like it were before. Just see t accept things the way they come. You caused it Amma " she said softly.
Tears started to stream down Amma's cheeks but that didn't make Fati to change her mind. She believes it isn't her fault. She has forgiven Amma but she just doesn't feel safe being around her again. "You know how much I loved him Amma but you still went ahead. I came to severally, complaining of how he's completely changed but you kept on telling me to have patience when you knew you were the cause. I'm sorry I can't be your best friend anymore. We'll visit each other and have fun but things are just going to be different."
Amma stared at her friend in awe. She just couldn't believe her ears. She wiped her tears with her hands, grabbed her stuffs and hesitated for a while before leaving.
"I'm sorry Fati. Find a place in your heart to forgive me " she said and left not bothering to check on her mother.* * * *
Minal's Pov.
How bad I wanted to call of this wedding but I couldn't. Nana isn't helping things which helped in discouraging me and when I saw all the arrangements and wedding preparations going on, I felt it wouldn't be nice if I did. Not that the love I have for Umar didn't get to the extent I could make sacrifices but I rather hurt him alone than hurt the feeling of thousands of people looking towards to this wedding.
What would I say to Nasir and his family? How would my mum deal with all the guest coming from far and near. "I'm so sorry Al-Amin. I can't. I am not destined to be Umar's wife. " I texted Al-Amin when it was four days to the wedding after ignoring his calls and messages.
It's just two days to the wedding, I was already looking like a bride. The glow on my skin is just so indescribable as a result of the body work, the henna which suited my light skin, and the tiny braids are just so... Masha Allah.
We were together with Nana and she was blabbing on what I have no idea on. I kept on staring at her as if I was listening to what she was saying but unknowingly to her, I was in a different world. I would be a married woman in just two day and it's been very hard for me to accept. The hennas and everything were meant to be a reminder but it worsened things instead.
Severally, I caught myself either thinking of Umar or staring at the only picture of him that I have hidden somewhere in my phone. "Are you with me Amarya (bride) " Nana asked snapping at me. "Sure I am" I lied.
The sound of her ringing phone forced her to shut her blabbing mouth and I couldn't help but let out a satisfied sigh. "It's a new number" she muttered dropping the phone. "Pick it and hear whatever the person has to say. It could be someone you know" I said calmly breaking my knuckles.
"Assalamu alaikum " she said the moment she received the call. She was quiet for a moment listening to the speaker as she kept on rolling her eyes. "Innalillahi WA Inna ilaihi rajiu " I heard her say loudly placing her right hand on her chest.
"No! This isn't true. You must be kidding me huh?" she said in between soft chuckles. She now looks so confused worried. She ended the call after some moments and I could see how the phone called changed her mind completely. "Are you alright Nana?" I asked placing a hand on her shoulder. Instead of answering me, she started to cry. I was so shocked that I was unable to move. "Tell me what it is Nana?" I asked but she was still unable to utter a word. It was more like she didn't want to tell me. She wiped her tears which were still gushing out, grabbed her phone and without sparing me a glance, she left the room. "What must have happened? " I thought with my eyes fixed on the door hoping she would come back. I wish I could go after her but she needed space and I decided to give her some. My phone beeped twice but I decided not to attend to it. "Might be a message from airtel maybe" I thought. "They are very good in flooding one's inbox." she muttered.I'm so sorry it's a short chappy guys. Just wanted to drop something for you ☺
