Where can I find my Umar? 😥😀
Enjoy
Minal was sure she saw a different Umar. Not a totally different one but a different one in so many aspects. The way he now talks to her, looks at her, the way he smiles, laughs and everything he does are extraordinarily amazing.
"Is there a mosque around? He asked after the adhan (call to prayer). "Not really. You'll have to pray with Mallam Ado outside in the next house." she said. "Lemme call him to help you" she said dialing Mallam Ado's number. He came in less that two minutes and Minal left to also go and pray. She can't just stand to see Umar in that condition. "How is Mallam Ado going to do it? Is he going to lift him or just assist him? " she asked herself looking through the window. "Maybe he'll just have to assist him because Umar will be too heavy for him" she thought. She watched them leave the house with Mallam Ado leading the way and she couldn't help the smile on her face.
"Have you prayed? " she heard Ummu's ask as she quickly jolted. "No Ummu. I was about to" she said looking down. "I can see." Ummu said smirking at her daughter who couldn't look up.
"Hey look!" she said pointing at Minal mouth. "What?!" She asked with her left hand now on her mouth.
"you got a little bit of drool on the corner of your mouth." she said with a smirk on her face. "Seriously Ummu" she said as she rushed to the mirror. "Why won't you when you were busy.. "
"Blah blah blah blah " Minal began to say at the top of her voice forcing her mother to swallow the rest of her words. She smiled at her daughter's childishness closing the door behind her. Ummu was happy with the fact that her daughter was also happy. She's glad it didn't take time and it wasn't difficult for her to move on. When Nana broke the news to her on that faithful day, the reason why it affected her so much was because she was afraid of the situation her Minal would find herself. "Only if my Sagir was alive" she muttered sitting at the edge of her bed. "If only" she repeated with a sad smile on her face.
Minal was in the last sujood when Maman Sadiya came in. Seeing she wasn't done, she sat at the edge of the bed and waited for her.
"Maman Sadiya did you miss me this much that you came to drag me into your kitchen" she teased now searching on the bed for her counter. "Tabdi jam. I have to start getting used to your absence Amina. " she said and Minal froze looking so confused. "When you'll be getting married soon" she added. Minal smiled shyly at the elderly woman.
"I came to inform you that your Prince Charming is back. I don't know why he couldn't wait till after Isha. And please tell him, I'm a widow with 7 kids and 12 grandchildren. He can still take me as his second wife you know, I caught him staring at me open mouthed and.... "
"Maman Sadiya please! " Minal yelled blocking her ears. "I was just telling you and by the way, he got a really nice wheelchair " she said at the door before closing it behind her and Minal could still hear her soft chuckles. "Maman Sadiya and Umar" she said picturing the two with a dirty grin."So you really not going to eat huh? " she asked when he mentioned leaving. She glanced at the clock at the time read 9:48 pm. "Haba Minal. I'm sure you don't expect me to eat this after the dessert I just had. " he said smiling down at her. He was now on his feet whole she was still leave but he has no option. "Don't I deserve an escort?" he was standing with his hands tucked in his pocket. She looked up at him battling with her eyes "Did you..... " she was unable to complete her sentence as she froze. "O my G! " she screamed inside buy wasn't able to say anything. She was now sweating profusely and Umar has a wide smile plastered on his face. Her hair was now exposed as the Laffaya rested on her shoulder. How mad will she be when she realizes this? he thought but she seemed to be in a different world not to have noticed.
She finally was able to lift a finger which she used to point at him. She kept pointing and wanted to say anything but then she said couldn't find the words. "You you.. "she started. She glanced at his wheelchair remembering Maman Sadiya's comment and then fixed her gaze on his legs. "Ya Allah make this dream come true" she whispered.
"You aren't dreaming Minal. It's real." he was now kneeling in front of her. He poured her a glass of water which she gladly accepted but then, she wasn't still able to overcome her state of mind. "You can walk? You are now back on your feet? " she asked after draining the cup of water.
"Yes Minal. Alhamdulillahi. It's exactly a month and ten days now and I'm glad you are the first person to know. I wanted to tell you first considering the fact that you were the first person I fixed my eyes on after spending days in coma when the accident happened. Thank you so much Minal. Thank you for everything you've done for me. Thank you for loving me unconditionally and for agreeing to marry the paraplegic I was. Allah will reward you abundantly In Sha Allah. "
She was still speechless as she continued to stare at him. It was as if she saw a ghost. She watched him leave leaving his wheelchair. "We'll talk later OK. I love you too " she heard him say but she couldn't reply. His words were still in her head as she was trying to digest them.
Maman Sadiya rushed into the sitting room but paused seeing Minal crying. "Amina are you alright? " she asked pulling her into her arms.
"He can walk Maman Sadiya. She managed to say in between sobs. "That was why I rushed here Minal. Alhamdulillahi! I'm happy for you guys. "
Ummu joined the in the sitting room as Umar became the topic of discussion. "Why did he leave the wheelchair here?" Maman Sadiya asked. "I told him you liked it so we thought you could give it to anyone you think will be in need. " Minal replied."I am the first person he told fa Nana" Minal said excitedly. "So I've heard for the millionth time this night" Nana sarcastically said.
"Only if you know how I feel Nana" Minal said sounding disappointed. "I'm so sorry Minal. I know how you feel and that's why I'm happy for you. The only thing is I'm trying hard to adapt Minal. I don't know why I never liked Umar but I'm trying my possible best to change this feeling. "I'm sorry Minal."
"It's OK Nana. I understand. After today's big surprise, all I need is a warm bath a sweet sleep. We'll talk tomorrow girlfriend. Chocolatish dreams"she said and ended the call. After having a quick bath, she changed into her nightie and began to search for her precious diary when her phone rang. She smiled knowing who it was. She watched the phone ring without making any attempt to pick. His call came through again and she didn't pick until it was about to cut.
"Jan aji huh?" she heard him say. "No fa. I wasn't close." she lied.
"Nah nah. Not a nice try. If lying was good, then I might have enroll you into a lying school." he teased. "I hate you" she said drawing something she has no idea of on the back page of her diary. "I know beautiful. And I hat you more." There was a little bit of an awkward comfortable silence before he spoke. "You liked the surprise? "
"I love it. It's the best surprise I'll ever get. " she said excitedly. "Thank you for keeping this good news for so long just to tell me first. " she added.
"You know I don't like Thank yous huh? " he said smirking. "When are you planning on telling mummy and then everyone? " she asked. "Well, I don't know. Maybe when I go home. "
"When are you leaving? Lagos I mean." she added. "Maybe in two days time." he said "I would love to stay longer but I wouldn't want Ummu and Maman Sadiya rushing us" he added.
"Rushing us? " she asked covering her mouth with a pillow so he wouldn't hear her yawning. She wasn't ready to end the call. At least not now. "Yes. What do you think will happen if I keep coming every day. They'll rush us to.. "
".. I understand"she said cutting him off. After spending hours on the phone, they both finally agreed to say good nights, I love you, sweet dreams blah blah blah. "I love you so much Amina Sagir Alkali" he said softly as she involuntarily closed her eyes. "I love you too Umar" she said after he ended the call. She sat up wondering why she just can't tell him she loves him. She has never told him before and she finds it so difficult to whenever she plans on doing so. "Thank God he isn't complaining" she said as she began to write on her diary.
