Billie:

"You've been so distant lately... Are you sure everything's okay?" Addie looked at me questioningly.

"Of course doll, I'm fine." I took a sip of my red bull. She gave me a weary smile.

"Okay baby. I hope you have a good day with Lilly. Ill see you later on tonight." She kissed my cheek. "Oh and there's sandwiches in the fridge." The front door closed behind her.

I went upstairs after she left and grabbed a giant plastic shopping bag filled with Barbie dolls, crayons, coloring books and princess DVDs.. Everything I knew my daughter loved. Addie and I decided it would be a good idea to drop a small fortune at toys r us if it made her feel a little bit at home here.

"We're here!" I heard Melanie's voice from downstairs.

"Be right there!" I yelled back. Lilly spotted the bag as soon as I hit the second step.

"Daddy is that for me!?" She came running up.

I laughed. "It sure is. Take a look inside." She slowly began pulling out toy after toy.

"Oh thank you thank you!" She hugged me tight.

"Lilly maybe you should go play with your new stuff in the living room." Melanie smiled. Lilly nodded and ran off dragging her bag behind her.

"Is that all I have to do to get a hug?" If it is ill spend every paycheck from here on out on toys." I chuckled. Melanie smiled but it didn't seem genuine. I knew right away that something was wrong.

"What is it?" I asked concerned.

"What do you mean?" She narrowed her eyes.

"Mel.. You've been making that same face since you were sixteen, you can talk to me.." I grabbed two glasses from the cabinet and filled them with ice water.

"You're not going to like this.." She began pacing around the kitchen counter.

"What am I not going to like?" I asked amused at how nervous she was.

"It's not funny Billie." She looked at me serious.

"Okay.. Well why don't you tell me what it is that's not funny?" I joked. She always had a tendency to over exaggerate things, hence leaving the state and starting a new life on her own at eighteen..

"I think I'm pregnant." She blurted out.

My glass of water smashed onto the hard wood floor into tiny tiny pieces.

"You think.. You think you're what?" I whispered.
