It's 4am. Back at Baker Street, Basil is the only one awake; at least he thought he was. He sat at the desk with all the chemistry equipment aside him, investigating the picture Olivia found of her father being kidnapped. He tried to match the finger prints of whom it was that took the picture, to find out who has Olivia's father. He studied it, closely with a magnifying glass. He found smudges on the bottom right hand corner of the picture, but he couldn't tell if they were finger prints or not.
He held the picture in front of the Bunsen burner, and then places the ashes of the paper into the bowl. He then poured it into a beaker, filled with distilled water. He then poured a drop of crude oil into the bowl. It began a small fire, that faded. Basil coughed, and tried to spread the smoke away with a cough.
Just at that moment, he heard someone screaming upstairs. Olivia was screaming her sleep. He turned towards upstairs. It was only him and Miss Kitty, however, she was a very heavy sleeper. He ran upstairs, panicking. Was there something in Olivia's room?
He entered Olivia's room to see she was only having a nightmare. She was fidgeting a lot whilst at it. Basil turned on the bed side light.
"Olivia! Olivia!" Basil called out to her, as he tried to wake her up by nudging her shoulders.
She woke up, screaming and stopped when she saw Basil.
"It's OK. You're were only dreaming." He rubbed her shoulder to try and calm her down.
"I'm sorry." She said, panting heavily.
Basil pulled her close for a hug, and he rubbed her back to help even more.
"I keep seeing him, Basil." She stated, starting to cry. "Ratigan."
"Olivia, listen," Basil interrupted her, "I don't have defined proof who has your father, or anybody, please bare with me." He wiped a tear from her face.
She nodded.
He looked at her, feeling sympathetic.
"I've been having dreams like this for a while. It all started about 2 years ago." She said, struggling to talk with her crying voice.
He placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Olivia, look into my eyes." So she did. Basil placed his hand on his heart. "I promise you, if he is still alive, I will not let him hurt your father, nor you."
His emerald eyes were like hypnosis to her. He smiled at her.
"Do you trust me?"
"Of course." Olivia smiled and stopped crying.
"Sorry to leave you-" Basil apologized, "but it appears as I have a previous engagement with an investigation."
He stood up and walked out. Olivia watched him.
"Basil?"
He turned around.
"Thank you so much for doing all this for me."
He smiled.
"I told you, I would help you if you ever needed my help again. I don't make empty promises. Whether it was a few minutes ago, or ten years ago."
Olivia laughed.
"Wow. It's been that long?"
"Yes..."
There was a long silence.
"If you need me at all, I'll be downstairs." Basil finally said, as he half shut the door and handed downstairs.
Olivia sunk into her bed. At that moment, she smiled. She didn't know whether it was love or lust. But she did know she was gaining some feelings for Basil. At first she thought it was only because he is her hero, but now she is staying with him until he helps her father, she's getting to know him a lot better.
