A few hours had passed. Olivia and Basil were still in the cellar. Olivia had calmed down a little, but in the back of her mind, she still couldn't believe her father was gone, and was never coming back. She sat on the edge of the bed, next to the wall, with Basil next to her. Basil had never felt so low in his life. He felt like he failed her. He promised he would get her father back and protect her. Tears were strolling down her face. Basil was trying his utter best to cheer her up.
"Olivia, I promise you, I will not let him get away with what he just done." She didn't respond. She just sighed.
Basil shook his head, and tears were starting to overcome him. He moved away from her slightly and buried his hands in his face.
"I'm so, so sorry. I failed you."
Olivia turned to him, and noticed he was upset. She slide towards him.
"Basil, you haven't failed me. Never have, never will."
"Because of me, you don't have parents anymore."
"I loved my father, and he loved me and was proud of me. That's all I could ask for. I didn't know my mother. I suppose it would be nice to know if she was proud of me."
Basil looked at her, and smiled. "Of course she would be, Olivia."
"I don't think she would. Because of me, she's dead."
"How so?"
"She died giving birth to me."
There was a long silence.
"Basil, can I please come live with you? You're the only reason for me to be happy."
Basil got up, and knelled in front of her.
"Olivia, we've gone through this already. I know where this is going." He said calmly, "You know your father would want you at university."
"That's not the reason why you don't want me to." She said as a tear strolled down her cheek. "It's because you're trying to protect me from all this happening again."
Basil stood up. "If you'd do as I say, you'd thank me for it one day. The world is too dangerous for a girl to be a detective." He said, raising his voice.
She lost all her patience. She stood up shortly after. "I'm not a kid anymore, Basil!" She said, starting to cry even more.
Basil studied her. He could tell in her eyes she was hurt by what he said, and he knew, in the back of his mind, she was right.
"Olivia, I'm only doing what's best for you. I can't bare anything to happen to you. You'd be safer in Scotland." He softened his voice.
She was crying hysterically at this point. She buried her paws in her hands. Basil sighed and sat beside her.
"You will understand some day, Olivia. I promise." He touched her knee and he was going to get up and walk to the other bed when she dragged him back down. She got up, and walked around in circles.
"It's you that doesn't understand. The reason I'm studying in the first place, is to be like you. You're the reason why I am who I am. You're a massive impact on my life, you just can't see it. I haven't gone a day, without thinking about you!" She was still sobbing as she was pouring her heart out to him. "For a detective, Basil, you can't see what's past the end of your nose."
"Olivia, you have your whole life ahead of you-"
"Exactly!" She exclaimed.
Basil finally switched on. He knew what he was hinting.
"And I want to spend it with you!" Basil looked at her, completely shocked as she sat beside him. "More than anything." She added, almost whispering.
"I had no idea." He said, shaking his head.
"Well, now you do." She turned away from him, crying.
He took her hand. She stopped crying and turned back to him. Basil pulled her closer and wiped her tears away. They both starred into each others eyes. Olivia's eyes were like sapphires next to his emerald eyes. Olivia forgotten how handsome Basil was. He couldn't resist how beautiful she looked, even when she was crying, she looked like a goddess. Basil put his hands on Olivia's face and their faces got closer and closer, until they finally kissed. Olivia could not believe it. Basil of Baker Street was kissing her. Her heart began to race. She just wanted to melt in his arms. She kissed him back. After a few seconds, the kiss started to get very passionate. He finally pulled away from her, with their faces still close.
"I don't want to take advantage of you, Olivia. You know yourself your father would want you back at university."
"I won't graduate for another 3 years."
"I'm not going anywhere. I will wait for another ten years to see you again if I have to. You don't know how much you mean to me, Olivia."
Olivia smiled whilst a tear rolled down her cheek.
"I promise, I'm going to find a way to get you, Miss Kitty and your friend out alive."
"Make sure you get out too."
Basil observed her red bow in her hair, and then the key hole at the door. He studied the door, got up and moved closer to it.
"May I have your bow?"
Olivia untied it off her head, and handed it to him.
Before she knew it, Basil had managed to unlock the door. He smiled at her, feeling proud.
"You're amazing." She said, looking at her hero.
"Elementary." He replied. "Now, let's grab everybody and get out of here."
