At Basil's flat, Olivia barged into the living room and sat down with her arms folded in the green chair. She was followed by Basil, Miss Kitty and Fievel. Dawson and Marion had gone home. Basil just watched Olivia the whole time.
"Dawson said he'll get in touch with Scotland Yard to investigate Ratigan incase he is still alive, Basil." Miss Kitty reported to him. He didn't respond. He just looked at her, helpless. Miss Kitty and Fievel both observed Olivia.
"I think we should leave these two to talk." Fievel suggested.
"Would you like that, Basil?" Miss Kitty asked kindly.
"She has to talk to me one way or the other."
They both nodded and left the room. Basil plucked up the courage, and walked towards Olivia. He pulled up the stool from his red chair and sat directly in front of her so she couldn't miss him. She didn't move a muscle or fight to get away from him.
"Livy, I know you hate me for sending you back, especially after what's happened. But don't you think your father would want to be buried where he came from?"
"Stop bringing my father into this, Basil." She said softly.
"I'm sorry. I understand what you're experiencing."
"No you don't, Basil. You're sending me back home, to places where my father and I used to go get ice cream after school, where he taught me to walk, where I fell and skint my knee and he kissed it better. You're just sending me back to memories."
"Memories are cherishing."
"Don't you see? I'd be happier starting off fresh."
Basil sighed, and leaned backwards.
"I told you to come on the blimp with me, but you didn't listen. Then there is me, worrying my socks off about you." Olivia said.
"So that's what this is about?"
"No, it's not all what it's about." She stood up. "The point is, Basil, it's not about what my father wants or what I want; it's about what you want! You're just so desperate to keep me out of danger, or keep you out of your business, because you want to work alone, that you're sending me back to Scotland to 'study and graduate'. And what on earth was that in cellar?"
"What do you mean?"
"The kiss, Basil. You kissed me. Everyone saw you. Why did you do that? Because as far as I can see, you're giving me mixed signals. If you care about me, you sure have a funny way of showing it."
Basil stood up, prepared to explain. "Livy I-" she interrupted him.
"You are too complicated of a person, Basil." Her voice started to shake with tears building up.
"Oh, no. Don't turn the taps on." He replied, feeling awkward.
"What does it take for me to convince you to let me stay in London with you? Can't you see, Basil. I LOVE YOU!" She cried as a waterfall was falling out of her eyes.
Basil studied her- he couldn't believe what he heard.
"I understand if it's no reciprocated, because I'm nothing but a kid in your eyes, but I don't care, I'm telling you anyway- I'm so completely in love with you and I guess that's the reason I want to stay the most." Her voice begin to soften, however her tears didn't.
He didn't respond. He just went and sat in his big red chair, completely stunned to silence.
Olivia ran up the stairs, to Basil's room and planted herself on his bed and cried into his pillow.
Mrs Judson entered the room with tea and crumpets for Basil.
"Rough case, Mr Basil?" She asked as she put his snacks on his side table.
"It's not the case that is the case, Mrs Judson." He said, as he sunk lower into his chair.
Mrs Judson looked up at the open door that lead upstairs. She heard from the kitchen, so she knew exactly what went on.
"Basil, I know you don't want to admit it, and you want to stay committed to your work, but I think you love her too."
"That is absurd." He couldn't even make eye contact with her.
"Basil..."
He looked up at Mrs Judson and then got a flashback of all his memories with Olivia. Even from the first case he had with her when she was only eight years of age. He thought about how he felt last time when she left. How she said she would never forget him, as well as he with her. How brave he was trying to be in front of Dawson when she left the door. Of course his feelings towards her on the first case were completely different to how they are now. He then got a flashback to the first time he saw her in ten years. How beautiful she looked, the way he felt when she embraced him and of course when he kissed her. How shivers ran down his neck. How even looking at her or thinking about her made him smile. The flashback ended.
"Think about it." Mrs Judson went on.
Basil sighed and he was finally ready to admit it.
"I guess you're right. I have to accept it. Smell the coffee- I love her." He admitted, helplessly.
Mrs Judson smiled. She knew she could be deep and get things out of him eventually.
"Do you really think sending her back to Scotland is the right choice?"
He stuttered.
"You should think about it." She took the tray and walked back to the kitchen.
