#2 What The Problem Is

Sorry for doing this, as I'm not a huge fan of doing this during a chapter when I could just update my status, but I just wanted to get a few things straight with you guys who have already read the first chapter.

First of all, I am only doing this for fun- I'm not looking for compliments, or attention or anything. I love the Great Mouse Detective; it's one of my favourite Disney movies, and I've wanted a sequel to it for a long time. So if you guys want to question why certain stuff are in the novel, like how did Ratigan survive, or that I was lazy for not making a new villain when that is what sequels are all about: introducing new characters. Don't worry, cause spoiler alert: I am going to do that, along with, let you guys know characters more from the movie. A reminder, this is just fan fiction. I personally think Ratigan should not have died, because he was too good a villain, and for those who have seen the movie and disagree with me, dare I ask you, please watch the movie again. I've watched that film since I was four years old, and Vincent Price has never failed to give me goosebumps... or scare the shit out of me...

So this is why I have come up with a cover story. Sorry if my logic with the 1900's is not accurate, like Olivia with university. I made Silvergreen university up, because when I was doing research for universities in the 1905, I couldn't really find any. Just to clarify as well, Olivia is studying in Scotland, along with Fievel, who I know was from America. I'm not going to go into the background story of why Fievel moved to Scotland to study, or how Olivia and him have known each other for a long time, but the reason I did add Fievel was just moral support for Olivia, because she needs a friend during Basil's absence, which has been for 10 years. I also wanted Olivia to be a student, studying Journalism and Creative Writing, because as a kid, she was inspired by Basil to become a detective herself. With Olivia's age- 18: I hear so many different stories. One she's 5 years old in the movie, next she's 8 and then the next she's 10. I've decided, she was 8. It's my fan fiction.

The next day. At 221 1/2 Baker Street, In Sherlock Holmes basement, the hero was still living the same life as a detective. Only this time, he had not that many cases, due to Ratigan being gone. The camera creeps up from being him, sitting at his desk with his chemistry set, pouring hydrochloric acid, from a vase into a beaker. All around him, are bubbles from liquids he was using from previous experiments. He shield his eyes with goggles after placing the beaker of hydrochloric acid on top of a clamp stand, guarded by a Bunsen burner. Using forceps, he held a small piece of zinc, next to the gas- his hand shaky.

"Basil?"

He gasped and jumped, knocking the hydrochloric acid all over the desk.

"Miss Kitty!" He snapped, forcing his goggles off and dropped them, viciously on the floor. "Do not sneak up on me whilst I'm in the middle of an experiment!"

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," she explained, feeling guilty, "it's just, you've been in this room for so long, I'd thought I'd check on you."

"Why? Worried that an experiment went wrong and died at the scene, or just out of your boredom?" He asked, trying to be distant. He picked up napkins to clean up the mess he made. As he touched the liquid with the napkin, he got a shock due to the hydrochloric acid being a bit hot from the Bunsen burner.

"Basil, please don't be like this." She replied, fed up of his attitude lately.

"Be like what?" He asked impatiently, as he disposed of the used napkins.

She looked around the room. There were broken glass on the floor, half broken equipment for his experiments, newspaper articles all over the floor.
