Austin’s POV

My cousins follow my car to the hospital. It was pretty late but I’m sure the nurses wouldn’t mind. I mean, I’m bringing my superstar cousins to a hospital with me. They won’t mind. When we get there, the parking structure wasn’t full at all so we got spots next to each other. I got out of my car and watched as the five of them pile out of their car.

“Okay, so when we get in there, no fighting, no yelling, and no talking to anybody unless they’re a fan. I need to sign all of us in so you’ll wait here.” I tell them as they follow me into the hospital. They all nod and sit in the waiting area as I go to the front desk.

“Hey, Janet, I’m back.” I say chuckling a little at her.

“Hey, Mr. Moon! You brought company?” She says, smiling at Ratliff and waving. He awkwardly waves back and Rydel smacks his hand down.

“They’re my closest cousins, can we still visit with Ally Dawson?” I ask her.

She smiles at me and my cousins. “Yes, of course! I know I said only four people are allowed but it looks like Ally will have more company than that.”

“Thank you so much!” I tell her. She nods and hands me the clipboard with the sticker passes on them. I write down all their names and thank Janet again and walk back with the passes.

“Okay, here you guys go. Now, when we get in her room, I’m going to sing her the song I wrote and maybe she’ll hear it. I hope you don’t mind.” I tell them, gesturing that they follow me to the elevator.

“Of course, man. No problem.” Rocky says as we enter the elevator. “We get it.”

“Thanks.” I say. I was mentally preparing myself to see Ally and to sing from my heart, the way she did at her Audition.

When the elevator doors open, I gesture for them to follow me to Ally’s room. I open the door slowly and peek inside. Dr. Omiat was standing over Ally, testing her. When she spotted me, she smiled and excused herself from the room. I walked in and my cousins followed me. I sat next to Ally and they stood at the foot of her bed.

I take her hand. “Hey, Ally. If you can hear me in there, I just want you to know that I love you, and I wrote this song for you.”

I take out my guitar from the behind the chair and the notepad with the chords and lyrics. I smile at her. I take in all the features that I loved about her that made me write this song. I took a deep breath and started to play.

“Last summer we met, we started as friends. I can’t tell you how it all happened. Then autumn it came, we were never the same, those nights, everything felt like magic. And I wonder if you miss me too. If you don’t it’s the one thing that I wish you knew…” I start to sing. When I get to the chorus, my cousins join in and sing with me.

“I think about you every morning when I open my eyes. I think about you every evening when I turn out the lights. I think about you every moment, every day of my life. You're on my mind all the time. It's true. I think about you, you you, you you. I think about you, you you, you you…” With all of us singing, she would have to hear it and wake up. She just has to.

I sing the second verse and my cousins join me for the chorus again. After I finish the song, we wait in silence, watching Ally. I watch her fingers, waiting for that twitch. A few minutes, that felt like hours, pass and Ally hasn’t moved. It took me a few seconds to realize I had started crying.

“Why didn’t it work…” I mutter to myself.

Rydel comes next to me and puts her arms around me. She kisses my shoulder and leans her cheek on it. I felt a tear trickle from her face and land on my shoulder. I couldn’t help but cry a bit more and I let Rydel hold me. We all sat around Ally, waiting for her to move or stir or wake up in a flurry the way she did the last time. A nurse came into the room and stopped walking when she realized the somber vibe in the room.
