"So how did you feel when they called out your name for both best director AND best screenplay for your movie 1914?" One of the reporters asks me.
I'm in the press room, standing behind a microphone with my two statues in hand. There are a lot of things going on in my head, but at least the smile hasn't come off yet.
"I thought they made a mistake." The room laughs, "I am very grateful for this. I never thought I would. I feel like the biggest accomplishment for me is that the movie was greatly received by Belgian veterans for the true portrayal of the war."
"Next question." One of the ushers says.
A woman stands up in the back and grabs the microphone.
"Lianne Marshall from the New York Times entertainment column. You said in your speech that you didn't have someone in this business to look up to when you were younger. How does it feel to become that person for younger generations?"
"You know, it's strange to see myself as a rolemodel, but I think it suits me. I'm one of the living examples that shows that you can do and become anything you put your heart and head to."
"Last question." The usher announces.
A man stands up to ask me the last question. He's a little fidgety, but I get the nerves.
"Kane Shapiro from Entertainment Weekly over here. Do you already have a new project?"
"Well, I'm working together with Martin McDonagh on an adaptation of Catcher in the Rye. Script is as good as finished. Just a few tweaks here and there, and then we're set on casting and filming."
"Thank you, Georgia Brown. And congratulations on your wins." The usher announces as another one shows me the way off the small stage.
I sigh as I hand my statues to one of the women that work at the organization. They still have to engrave my name on the plaques. I'm joined again by my love as he wraps his arms tightly around my waist from behind me.
"Congratulations." He smiles against my ear, "I knew you could do it."
"Shut up." I grin.
I turn a little so I can press my lips against his. I smile into the kiss before he pulls away.
"So, while you were doing that interview, you've been invited to 3 different after parties."
"Hm, which ones?"
"HBO, Netflix and Fox Studios. Where do you want to go?"
I smile at him, "Home?"
"Georgia Brown, turning down a chance to party?" He grins.
"It's been an exhausting day, babes. All I want to do, is relax and enjoy the happiness I'm feeling now." I wrap my arms around his waist, "There's no place like home."
"Alright then."
___________
I snuggle up against the soft pillows as I grab the remote. The TV is playing a short review of the night and I see myself appear next to Boston.
"The surprise winner was Georgia Brown, who took home several statues for her movie 1914, including Best Director and Best Screenplay." The voiceover explains and I laugh.
It's always weird to see myself on TV doing interviews or things like that. I grab my phone off the coffee table when it starts buzzing. I grin as I notice the name on the screen.
"Hello, wanker." I pick up the phone, "How is my favourite goddaughter doing?"
"Well, hello to you too, you arse." Bree groans on the other side, "She is doing fine. Finally sleeping whole nights. But I was calling to congratulate you for all those Golden Globes. Yay!"
"Ugh, thank you..."
"Whoa, what do you mean 'ugh'? You don't like it?"
"Oh, I do, but I was so nervous on that stage. I just don't get public speakers. How do they not get nervous?"
"You did great, Georgie. Especially when you thanked me and Manu and Talia. I felt really loved."
"That almost sounded sarcastic."
"It wasn't supposed to." She laughs, "You are amazing, Georgie, and you finally have the recognition you deserve."
"Stop being so mushy. I have Boston for that."
"Right. How are you guys? I saw you two on the red carpet and you looked amazing."
"Why thank you." I smile, "We are great actually. He is the total embodiment of a great fiance."
I see Boston appear in the corner of my eye with two cups of hot chocolate and a plate of cookies.
"Oh here he is." I giggle.
"Who's on the phone?" He frowns as he pulls me close to him.
"It's Bree. She was bored so she called me."
"I wasn't bored!" She shouts through the phone before lowering her voice to a normal tone, "Okay, maybe I was a little. But being home with a kid while your man is out is boring."
"I can imagine. At least I'll be quite busy from next week on."
"I can't wait until I found a job again. Honestly, I'm running up the walls over here."
"Maybe you should just move out here? I could easily find you a job in some costume department."
"Yeah, no. I'm not going to do that, Georgie. My roots is here. Manu's too. And he's been really keen on raising Talia like a great Samoan."
"God, Manu is so weird sometimes."
"Hey! No foul word about my husband, Miss Brown." She says sternly, "Or I'll turn the tables on you, Missy."
"Alright, alright. I'll shut up." I laugh as Boston kisses my temple, his fingers tracing up and down my arm, "I'm going to hang up now. Boston is pulling all my attention to him."
"Aw, are you going to make a little cousin for Talia?"
"Oh my god. Gross, Bree."
"Alright, see ya later, Georgie."
She hangs up before I could even say goodbye back. I smile, rolling my eyes, before I turn to Boston.
"What did she say that was so gross?" He inquirs.
I grin, leaning in, "You really want to know?"
He squints doubtful as I press my lips against his. Oh, men could be so oblivious sometime.
