"so, you wanna go to the spot?" ethan asked me, glancing over and smiling.

"sure. the sunset should be starting soon." i played with the shark tooth bracelet on my wrist, the one that ethan bought me when we were at the end of our freshman year. we both had one, it was to symbolize our friendship.

we cruised down the quiet and empty streets of our small town in ethan's 1985 cadillac eldorado convertible, and "everybody wants to rule the world" by tears for fears was blasting on the radio. it's our favorite song.

my hair was blowing in the wind and i had my arms up, feeling the air blow past my fingers.

ethan was mumbling the lyrics and tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.

after driving through town and down back roads we pulled up to the spot, and i hopped out.

ethan grabbed a blanket from the backseat and we started walking towards the edge of the hill.

we both sat on the blanket, staring at the orange clouds and sunflowers in front of us.

"this view honestly gets better every time..." i said quietly with ethan agreeing.

we just sat there in silence for a while, playing with the grass, watching the sky slowly become darker.

i looked over to ethan and watched him picking pieces of grass. he noticed me staring and giggled.

"what?" he grinned.

"how did i get stuck with you?" i said quietly.

"excuse me? what's that supposed to mean?" he laughed and sat up.

i sat back, leaning on my elbows.

"nothing! it's a good thing!" i giggled.

"i'm just saying, i've never done anything so damn good to deserve someone like you. everyone who's living a happy life with someone they love has done something incredible. i've got you, and i'm living a happy life, so how did that happen?" i looked up at him and he gave me a light smile.

"you made me a better person. you remember how i was at the beginning of high school. i was the biggest failure the entire school has ever seen. but you helped me through that. and i've gotta say, that's pretty incredible." he grinned and sat back next to me, also on his elbows.

we just sat there, admiring each others features.

"you're so beautiful." ethan mumbled, looking into my eyes.

i blushed and smiled softly. he slowly leaned in and the faded scent of his minty cologne filled my nose.

his lips connected with mine, making my heart beat faster than ever.

he put his hand on my face and pushed a piece of hair behind my ear.

i held onto his shirt collar and pulled him closer, making him grin into the kiss.

he pulled away and put his forehead on mine. i put my hand on the side of his face and grazed my thumb along his jaw.

"you're a good kisser." i giggled.

"thanks, you too." he giggled back.

"shut up." i pushed him away a little and we both laughed.

after the stars came out, we started walking back to his car.

ethan reached for my hand and held onto my pinky with his.

he kissed the top of my head softly. i grinned and put my head on his shoulder.

i guess i did do something incredible.
