(Darry's POV)

"I screwed up. I really, really did. If I hadn't hit Pony, all this wouldn't have happen. Pony and Johnny wouldn't have had to go to that old church. They wouldn't have had to save those kids. Johnny wouldn't have died and then Dallas wouldn't have died either. You and I wouldn't have had those days with no sleep. Two-Bit wouldn't even had thought  of going to Texas. Then we never would have had had the court appearance and that soc would still be alive. None of us would be hurt because of the rumble. And that one soc girl, Cherry somethin' or other would still have her boyfriend. And life would go on as normal." I put my head in hands and I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"It's not your fault, Darry, you couldn't have known what was going to happen," Soda whispered.

"But I should have. And I'm sorry"

"No you shouldn't have."

"Darry..." I hear another voice and I  look up from my hands and at the doorway, Pony's standing there. "It isn't your fault." His voice was trembling as if he was trying not to cry.

"But it is."

"No! It's not, Darry!" Pony said louder this time. And now he had tears running down his face. I stood up and so did Soda.

"If I hadn't hit you none of this would have happened."

"Darry," Soda said, quietly, "stop blaming yourself."

I looked Pony in the eye, "I'm so sorry, guys." Without realizing it, I was crying too. Pony ran towards me, just like he  had in the hospital the night before the rumble, and he hugged me.

"It's okay, Darry, it ain't your fault, none of it was."

Soda joined the hug, saying, "We've never blamed you for any of it."
