After Cas got discharged, Dean drove them straight to Biggerson's Diner. Dean ordered Cas the very same thing that Cas got on their first date. Cas put his hand on his chin and pushed it out to Dean.
Thank you.
Dean just smiled and pushed the burger towards Cas who smiled. Dean just nodded and tucked into his own burger. Sam smiled as he began to eat his "pile of grass" as Dean described to Cas.
He put his left palm flat and his right palm from his wrist to his fingertips before putting a loose five up to his chin, pulling it down and up again.
Pile of grass...
Cas chuckled and put his hand on his stomach and moving it in a circle twice.
Yum yum. Sam just laughed and shook his head. It's good! he signed. Cas just laughed. Dean stared at him and the world seemed to move in slow motion. Just Cas sitting next to him and laughing... feeling happy.
Dean put up his thumb, pointer finger, and pinkie and turned it towards Cas. Cas made the same motion and attempted to hug Dean in the booth. Sam just shook his head. "Not in front of my salad..." he mumbled before chuckling to himself.
They ate the rest of their meal in silence, something that Cas thought he was getting used to.
After a couple of days, Dean was doing some research and Cas stumbled onto his computer.
Dean. he signed, sighing quietly. He put his hand on his chest, shook his head, put his hand into a hook and rotated it around his ear. I don't need hearing aids.I know. Dean signed, looking sadly at Cas. If you hear your own voice will you talk to me? It only amplifies what you can already hear, but the doctors said you reacted to loud noises. Maybe it'll work. Cas just moved his hands in a seesaw motion. Maybe...
Dean just shrugged and continued looking through the different options.
Dean... Cas pouted as he hit Dean on the arm. Dean just stuck his tongue out and clicked a few buttons before closing the computer.
Did you just... order something? Dean just shrugged and went to the kitchen to grab a piece of apple pie.
A week later, Dean drove off without a word to the post office and came back with a small box in his hand.
Cas put his hands up and pointed at the box.
What... is that? Dean just winked and pulled his pocket knife out and cut the box open.
Dean! Cas signed, chucking a pillow at Dean. I told you I don't want hearing aids! Dean just pouted. Please? he signed, putting the pillow back on the couch and sitting next to Cas. Just try them on?
Cas just rolled his eyes and gave Dean a quick hug. You're really lucky I love you. Dean smiled.
"I know," he said. Cas nodded, only assuming what Dean had said. Dean pulled out the instructions and began assembling the hearing aids.
Cas pushed them into his ears and sighed.
I still can't hear anything. Dean laughed and Cas sighed again. He missed that noise.
They're not on yet dumbass.
Cas could tell as soon as Dean turned them on. The static noise that was always playing in the background switched off. He could hear his heartbeat. It was pounding in his ears. He couldn't breathe. He grabbed Dean's hand for comfort and put his finger on his lips. Dean nodded. He understood that Cas just needed a minute to adjust. Cas slowly put his finger down and looked over at Dean.
"Cas?" Dean's voice was muffled but Cas could hear him. His eyes widened and he nodded. "Can you hear me?" Cas took a deep breath as if he was inhaling the sound waves in through his nose and out through his mouth. He smiled and nodded. "Yeah?"
Cas nodded again and a huge lopsided grin broke out on Dean's face. "Oh Cas... thank god. I guess you'll be able to hear me ask." Cas cocked his head to the side as if saying ask what?
Dean's leg bent down as he got down on one knee. "Castiel Novak. I have loved you since the day I laid my eyes on you. I have loved you when I made Charlie dare you to kiss me. I have loved you since I got you that new coat, that I just knew it was just the right coat for you. I will love you, forever and always."
Tears filled Dean's eyes as he took the silver ring out of his pocket. "Castiel, will you do me the honor, of marrying me?" Tears were rolling down Cas' face as he let Dean slip the ring on his finger. "So...? Will you?" Cas pulled Dean into a hug. "Yes." his voice was hoarse, but it was clear enough for Dean to start crying in Cas' shoulder. "I love you, Cas."
"I love you too, noodle."Cas was laying on top of Dean while Dean was lazily combing his fingers through his fiance's hair. Sam was passed out at the edge of the couch, his laptop still open and his hand on the keyboard. "Screw this." Dean sat up and threw a pillow at his brother. He grabbed Cas' hand. "Let's go."
"Where are we going...?" Sam asked sleepily, shutting his laptop as he got up. "Vegas. I can't wait a second longer."
Cas smiled. "I'm okay with that."
Sam shook his head. "You two are so sappy it's gross. Whatever happened to no chick flick moments Dean?" Dean shrugged and threw on his leather jacket before grabbing his keys.
"I don't know," he said slowly, looking over at Cas tying his shoes. "I guess there's an exception when you meet the right person." Cas smiled and looked up."There better be."
