"Have you and Eddie talked at all? It's been like two weeks" Bev asks.

"I know and no. He wanted space so I'm giving it to him" I say.

"You should text him. Just make sure he's doing ok. His mom won't let us in or him out" she says with a sad expression.

"Of course she's not. She probably doesn't want him catching the gay" I say sarcastically.

"Think about it at least"

"Bev, he doesn't want to talk to me. He left and hasn't said a word to me since. He probably just called it a break because he didn't want to deal with a break up or something. I don't know

"He loves you, Richie"

"Mhm sure"

"I'll prove it"

"How are you gonna do that?"

"I'm gonna call him and you're gonna be really fucking quiet"

"This is a bad idea"

"It's not. Now be quiet" she says and unlocks her phone. She goes through her contacts until she finds Eddie. She puts her phone on speaker and waits for Eddie to pick up. It rings 4 times before he answers.

"Hello?" he asks in a tired voice.

"Hey. Did I wake you up?" Bev asks.

"No. What's up?"

"Just wanted to check in on you. How are you doing?"

"Good I guess. It's kinda lonely.....I miss you guys"

"We miss you too"

"Hav......have you talked to Richie?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Just wondering"

"Have you talked to him?"

"....no"

"Why not?"

"I don't know what to say. I try to say something but I can never figure out what"

"Just say hi"

"'Hey sorry I asked to go on a break. I miss you and oh yeah you were right. Wanna go back to how it used to be?' besides, can you imagine admitting to Richie that he was right?"

"Just say hi, Eddie. Hi can't hurt. I'm sure he'd love to talk to you"

"Then why hasn't he texted me?"

"He's trying to give you space, like you asked"

"Oh"

"You love him right?"

"Yes. So much it's frustrating. He probably hates me though"

"I love you too, Eds" I say. Silence fills the room and Bev throws a notebook at me.

"I told you to be quiet!" she says in a hushed voice.

".....Beverly....was he there....the entire time?" Eddie asks.

"....maybe" she says.

"So what was I right about?" I ask. We hear a long sigh come from the other end of the phone.

"My mom" he mumbles.

"What's she doing?"

"Ok well you were right in a way"

"How?"

"She hasn't hurt me or anything. She just gives me these looks and doesn't let me do anything. It's doing more harm than good being here"
