The halls of Midtown High were crowded as always on a Monday morning. Drones were zipping up and down the corridors just waiting to get confiscated by faculty, though the owners never got caught, they were smart and knew the hall monitors route to a T.
Alice ducked as an incoming drone flew overhead, it came to a halt and hovered for a moment before being snatched out of the air by the owner. Alice shook her head and fixed her bag on her shoulder. "I swear one day I'm going to get decapitated by one of those things. Seriously, the school should have a dedicated area for drones and other flying objects. They've got a smoking area, why not a drone area?" Alice huffed as she turned down the right hallway going towards her locker. "Do you think that's really gonna stop them from flying indoors? The smokers are always getting busted for being in the quad at lunch." MJ responded. MJ patted her friends on the back before ducking down a separate hall "see you at lunch!" she yelled back to the two blondes. "I've got AM P.E, so I've gotta dash too, see you next period though" Gwen smiled to her best friend and made her way to the locker room. Alice sighed and got to her locker with ten minutes to spare until class started. She dialed the combination and tugged her locker door open, tossing in her afternoon class textbooks. "Alice, you ready for class?" Alice raised her eyebrows and shut her locker to reveal Liz Allen. Liz and Alice were friends. They had a class together and they were both on the academic decathlon team, they didn't hang out after class but they did see each other at parties and shared a hug or two over the course of the night. If that's the case, Alice was friends with a lot of people. Flash Thompson, Betty Brant, Ned Leeds, Peter Parker... Peter was a special case, she did in fact have a "weird, borderline obsessive crush on him that nobody can explain not even herself" as MJ says. But it was a lot less than that. Yes she had a crush on him but it wasn't weird or borderline obsessive. She just like how he smelled, she doesn't like to talk about it, yet that's pretty much what the trio talks about all the time. She hated it.
She knew peter liked someone else, it was obvious, and he wasn't that great at hiding it. She also heard Ned talking to him about the top his crush was wearing that day, again, not that great at hiding it. She tried though, she tried to talk to him in a playful and kind manner, she tried to sit near him in class and she also tried to be his partner in group projects. Ned was always there by his side right as the projects were assigned. Ned is a good guy overall, but he's a cock block.
Liz adjusted her books in her arms and walked down the hall beside Alice. The two girls were being watched by nearly every guy that they passed. Liz didn't notice, she was oblivious to the fact. Alice on the other hand, let her hair fall in front of her face, her pace picked up and she was now at a brisk walk to her designated class. Liz kept up pretty well considering the crowd. The girls got to their first class with Mr. Fogart. Normally Alice didn't mind her morning classes but something felt off this morning. She couldn't put her finger on it. From the moment she sat down she felt uneasy, anxious almost. She tried to shake the feeling as she jotted down the notes on the board.
The day passed slower than usual, Mondays tended to do that for some reason. As Alice got to her photography class she pulled out her brand new digital camera that her parents gifted to her for her 18th birthday. She found her seat at the round table near the large windows. MJ was soon after, followed by peter and Gwen. The three girls took over one table leaving peter to squeeze in where he could. Peter wasn't close with the girls at all, he just shared a few classes with them but he'd rather sit with them than sit with Flash Thompson. Alice looked through her photos and showed MJ and Gwen a nice one every so often. "Alright, I've been dying to ask this question. Why the hell do you go to a science school if your main focus is photography? Why didn't you go to art school like your brother?" MJ asked. Alice put her camera down and leaned back in her chair. "Well I wanted to go to post-secondary for chemical engineering but I realized very soon that im extremely unhappy doing that. I enjoy photography and now that we are mid-way through the first month of school it's pointless to transfer. And its senior year, if I transfer now, I won't graduate with you guys." Alice explained simply. "Well im glad you didn't transfer, I'd miss you too much" Gwen said bringing out her Polaroid. "But! If she did transfer you'd have more of an excuse to go see Oli- ow!" Alice looked at her two friends with a confused face. "More of an excuse to see my brother?" Alice asked. "no-""yes" MJ blurted. "Dude" Gwen looked to the ginger haired girl with a defeated look. "You like my brother?" Alice asked in disbelief. Gwen bit her lip "I don't like your brother, I mean he's nice to look at... I mean. Im sorry you're hearing this Pete." Gwen apologized. Peter cleared his throat. "Its fine, my aunt may talks to me about her boy problems all the time, not that this is a problem. Uh, what I mean is-""dude Oliver is my twin, we look the same. If you date him it's like dating me and that's weird" Alice cut peter off to save him from embarrassing himself even more. "No it wouldn't, you and Oliver have similarities, but it wouldn't be like dating you. I've thought about all of this, trust me" Gwen tried to defend herself. "Since we're on the topic of Oliver. Alice, can I get his number off you?" mj asked, an innocent look plastered on her face. "You're into my brother too?" Alice joked. "God no, I just want to ask him if he wants to go to the audition with me. It's almost two and I need to leave soon." Alice nodded and wrote down her brother's number for her. "Thank you my dear, I will see you cats later. Wish me luck!" mj got up from the table and snuck out of class before the teacher noticed she was even there.
"Good afternoon everyone. I've got a very exciting assignment for you all today. You're going to be split into pairs for this and I've already chosen the pairs so don't get to jittery. Flash and Betty, Kiara and Charlie, MJ and – oh, where's Mary Jane?" Mr. Davis stopped at our table. "She felt sick last period so she got a note from the nurse" Gwen lied perfectly, something Alice couldn't do to save her live. "Oh okay well I guess you guys can be a group of three. Okay class, what I want from you is a series of three photos of black light photography. Be creative and bring in three printed photo by the end of class on Wednesday. Good luck, I've laid out some supplies at the back. ONE LIGHT PER GROUP, two for the group of three" Alice got up from her seat and followed Gwen to the back of class. "Black lights and a gross neon blankets. We can so do better than this" Gwen picked up two handheld black lights and went back to the table. Alice grabbed a white sheet from the table and brought it back to her group. "Okay so let's hit up Diane's after class and then maybe go to that art store by the pita pit? She should pick up some glow sticks and maybe some paint?" Gwen started writing everything down. "Paint would work better" peter spoke up. "Okay, no glow sticks" Gwen crossed out the top of the list. "You guys are free to go" Mr. Davis excused them from class and the three packed up and left. Peter directed them to the city bus stop and made sure they were going the right direction. Alice took her seat next to peter, a move planed out by Gwen before they boarded the bus. Gwen sat next to a stranger with her back turned to them so she could see her match making take place. "So what are our ideas, do we have a theme?" Alice asked. "We could do self-portraits? Use the paint to make cool designs that reflect how the others see us?" Gwen suggested "or maybe how we view ourselves" peter spoke softly. "yeah I like that better I don't want to be dissed out by peter, I feel like he's got some sort of pent up anger towards me" Gwen joked. "This is our stop," Alice piped up. "I don't have any pent up anger towards you Gwen" peter retaliated. "Okay kids come on, let's go" Alice pulled peters hand. Her cheeks heating up at the contact. "Im joking Pete, don't take anything I say seriously" Gwen nudged his shoulder as she walked by. The three of them walked into Diane's, Alice finally dropping peters hand. She instantly cursed to herself, why the hell did she hold it for that long. She shouldn't have taken his hand in the first place. He hates her. She internally cringed at herself before going up to the counter to greet Diane.
