Mandi
The whole entire c-section I hardly felt a thing, but it seemed to last for an
eternity. Finally, it was over but I was in a delirious state of mind. They
ended up having to take the twins to the NICU just for observation. I
wanted to see them but I was so tired that I just fell asleep as they
wheeled me to a recovery room.
I slept for a couple of hours before I heard everyone in the room talking
and I woke up.
“Hey, honey,” my mom said as I opened my eyes.
“How are they,” I asked groggily.
“Well, I would say that they’re perfectly healthy as can be which is a
pretty dang miracle for how early they are,” she answered nodding her
head towards where AnaBella and Dillon sat each holding a twin. “They
each had a little trouble breathing at first so they had to be put on oxygen
for a bit. After that I thought that since there’s no other problems that I
might as well bring them here so that you can hold and meet them when
you woke up.”
AnaBella and Dillon both stood up and brought the babies over to me.
“They’re so little, though,” I said on the verge of tears.
“The boy almost weighs six pounds and the girl weighs about five and a
half pounds,” my mom replied.
“Do you have names picked out,” Dillon asked me.
“Yes, I do have names picked out,” I laughed. “Although, I’m having
trouble deciding their last name. Do I give them Williams or Hansen for
their last name?”
“I’d say that that decision is up to you and Dillon,” my mom answered.
“What do you think,” I asked him.
“If you really want to I say give them my last name,” Dillon grinned. “This
little man looks like he could make a star player in any sport he chooses,
and his sister looks like she’d make a great cheerleader.”
We all laughed at that, and then all of them looked at me expectantly waiting
for the names of the babies.
“Okay, don’t look at me like that and let me see my babies,” I laughed
holding out my hands. Each baby was gently laid into each of my arms. “The
girl is Abigail May Hansen and the little man is Aiden Christopher Hansen.”
They all gushed over how cute the names were and especially how cute the
babies were. I was glad to see that they had gotten most of their dominant
traits from me.
The next few days were spent with me lying in a hospital bed learning how to
take care of Abigail and Aiden before I got to go home.
I was learning that being a mommy of twins was an exceptionally hard job,
but with the support group I had behind me I knew that I would be the best
mother to my babies as I possibly could.
