I arrive at school, just before the bell rang. Everyone is sitting in there seats. My desk is in the far corner where the teacher doesn't really notice. I began walking to it, until Brenda and her bratty friends came to greet me.

"Hey Beatrice, nice jacket, where did you get it, the thrift store," she says.

"My name is Tris," I say a little tense. "And no, my mom gave it to me."

"Wow your mom really has good fashion sense," she giggles.

I roll my eyes and ignore her. I walk faster to my desk, when I feel something against my foot and I fall.

"Watch out Stiff!," Peter says laughing. He's one of the cool kids in class.

I get up picking up anything that fell out of my backpack. A hand grabs one of my papers, the one with various math problems I don't understand, and hands it to me. I take it and look up, I see a kid with dark blue eyes and light brown hair. I pick up the rest of my things and walk to my seat with no interruptions.

"Okay class, today we are going to do an art project," my teacher, Mr. Corks, says.

"What kind of art project?," one of my classmates asks.

"You're going to pair up and create a bottle rocket. And during lunch time, we are going to launch the rockets," Mr. Corks says.

"Okay everyone, i'll give you 2 minutes to choose your partner"

I get up and walk to ask my other classmates if they want to pair up with me.

"Hi Madison, want to pair up with me?," I ask. She rolls her eyes at me and walks away.

I ask half the class, but everyone seems to have found a partner. I feel a giant hole in my heart and silently walk to my desk.

"Okay, raise your hand if you don't have a partner," Mr. Corks says.

I raise my hand along with....Molly. Oh No! Not Molly. She is the biggest bully in school. Shes going to crush me!

"What!! I have to pair up with the Stiff!!," Molly says, obviously with annoyance in her voice.

"I'm sorry Molly, but everyone must have a partner and everyone has a partner except for you and Beatrice," Mr. Corks says.

"I can work alone Mr. Corks," I say hoping he says yes.

"No, it won't be fair. You two are partners, no more arguments. Okay, now I will pass out your materials to use for your bottle rockets."

Molly comes over to my desk and sits down in the open seat next to me crossing her arms. She looks at me disgust, but yet her eyes seem to have pity in them.

"What happened to your eye," she asks.

" I, Uhhh.... Was playing with my brother and I fell and hit my eye," I say.

"Umm, okay. But what about your lip?," she asks again.

"Why are we talking about this, we need to work on the rocket," I say turning my head.

"Okay, but you're doing all the work," she says.

"Umm, why?"

"Because I don't want to do work. Now work," she says as she flicks my head.

Everyone finish their rocket, and we all walk outside to the big field. Everyone was with their partner and one by one Mr. Corks kept calling each group at a time. As the rockets were about to launch, Mr. Corks would countdown and the rockets launched super high.

"Beatrice and Molly, you're up," Mr. Corks says.

I turn my head and notice that everything was silent, my cheeks were becoming red, I quickly walk to place the rocket in the launcher.

"You better not mess this up Stiff," Molly whispers in my ear.

"I won't," I whisper back. "This is our rocket, it was colored like a tree because nature is a sign of beauty. Molly would you do the honors."

Molly is an inch away from pressing the button, when Peter runs by and pushes me. I fall and knock the rocket launcher and Molly presses the button.

"Beatrice Duck your head!!!," Mr. Corks yells.

The rocket flies over my head side ways. I start to sweat and I feel something clogging my throat up. Molly's going to kill me. I get up, wiping the grass off of my shirt and pants, everyone is staring at me. Mr. Corks runs towards me, I see him as a blurry figure with the tears in my eyes.

"Beatrice are you okay?," he asks.

"Yes I'm fine," I say a little tense.

"You're worthless!! You ruin everything!," Molly yells. My mind goes back to last night, when my dad was beating me. I start to breath heavily and all I see was my dad's angry face. My eyes going everywhere. "You're worthless." I keep hearing my dad say.

"Beatrice are you okay?," I hear someone say, and I feel someone touch my shoulder.

"No! Don't touch me! I hate you! Don't touch me!," I say ripping my fathers hand off my shoulder. I run off to my hiding place behind the school, near the dumpsters, ignoring the calls of my father.

I think I was hiding here until school was over. The bell rang and all the kids were coming out. I wait until everyone is gone. I run back to classroom to get my backpack, hoping a window is open. I see that there is one and I run to it and look inside. It's my classroom, I recognize the tiger painting on the wall. I put my hand under the window and lift it. I crawl inside and fall to the floor, I hit my shoulder against the floor and I try not to scream. I get and look for my backpack, I crawl under my deck to get my backpack and when I grab it someone is unlocking the door. I quickly stand up and run to the window, ignoring the pain in my shoulder. I jump out and run to my neighbors house.

I knock on the door out of breathe. Mrs. Oswell opens the door and I see a wide smile spread across her face.

"Oh hello dear," she says.

"Hi, I came to pick Caleb up," I say still out of breathe.

"Sure thing," she says and walks inside to get Caleb.

"Hi, baby," I say as she hands him to me. "Thank you again Mrs. Oswell." I start to walk off, and I hear her call me back. I turn around and I see a small smile creep on her face.

"Oh Beatrice, one more thing, your life is going to get better," she says and walks inside. I smile at the ground, but then it goes away, How? How is it going to get better?

I walk to my house with Caleb and to my surprise, my mom and dad are here. Mom is cooking and dad is sleeping on the couch. I walk into the kitchen where my mom is and stand next to her, I take a deep breathe.

"Hi mom," I say gladly.

"Go put your brother in his crib," she says sternly.

"How was your day?," I ask.

"Now!," she says harshly and I jumpy back.

I walk upstairs to put caleb in his crib. I rock him until he falls asleep. I turn off the lights and close the door to his room. The sound of sizzling fades aways and I walk downstairs. I grab my bag and sit down at the diner table to do my homework.

"Here," my mom says as she hands me a plate with potatoes and chicken.

"Thank you...," I say quietly.

"Hi baby," she says walking over to my dad and kisses him.

I fake gag at the view and continue solving my math problems when I hear police sirens coming in the distance. At first I thought it was for something else, but then the sirens arrive at my house.
