The halls were quiet. The two betas and Lance were still laying about in the nest. They talked about everything and absolutely nothing at the same time.

Shiro and Keith talked about apologizing to Lance.

Keith didn't want to. He didn't like to admit that he was wrong, let alone embarrass himself in front of his new found crush.

Shiro also had some apologizing to do. He felt bad for not stepping in or defending the beta and as the leader of Voltron, he wasn't following through with what he should.

"Why can't you just do it for me?" Keith flopped over, falling face first into the pillows on his bed.

The older alpha rolled his eyes at Keith's childish behavior. For Christ sake the guy was nineteen, he should start acting like it.

Shiro huffed, "you yelled at him, and you made him cry. All I have to apologize for is not keeping you under control."

Keith winced.

Shiro sounded so bitter. It was a strange thing to here. The older alpha acting annoyed, especially at Keith, was rare. Whenever it did happen, it really messed with the younger's head .

Keith's head rose from the pillow, sending a hurt look at his mate.

Shiro saw the pain in his eyes. He felt horrible doing this to the love of his life, but lessons have to be learned.

"I know this is hard for you. This is hard for me too. Alphas usually don't apologize to people but we are in the wrong here. We are all supposed to be a team," Shiro paused gaining Keith's attention.

When the younger realized Shiro wasn't going to continue, he sat up to let out a huff, " I know I should apologize ok? It's just hard. I've never had to before- well, it's more like I never have."

"You've never been on a team before. You haven't had to work with other people. But now you do and part of it is admitting when you're wrong."

Keith nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat, "I'll do it at dinner"

Keith was prepared. While sitting with Shiro in the dining room, he had his courage high and ready to apologize.

When Lance walked in, that courage was deflated by Pidge. The gremlin looked ready to kill and that was not metaphorical.

Lance ignored the alphas. Taking his seat and staring at the table. He reached for his bowl of goo ready to start eating when there was a loud bang.

"So, are you gonna let him talk again or are you to proud as an alpha to treat him with respect?" Pidge had slammed his fist on the table.

Lance sat shocked. He reached out to Pidge, trying to comfort him only to be shoved off.

"No, Lance! He's wrong. He deserves to be yelled at!" He continued.

Keith grew increasingly angry. Never in his life has a beta yelled at him and gotten away with it.

A warning growl resigned in the alphas chest, sending a warning to the beta.

"Oh shut up! You're being a jackass! A real alpha would admit they're wrong."

Keith stood from his chair, roaring at the beta. "Shut the fuck up! This isn't about you!"

"What if you doing this results in us getting killed in battle? What if you do the same exact shit to me because you think you're better than me? Cause you aren't! We're equals!"  Pidge walked towards the alpha, hands gesturing widely.

Keith  walked towards the fuming beta, fists turning white with how hard he clenched them.

Shiro sprung from the table, ready to get involved if the fight became physical.

Lance sat in his chair gazing wide eyed at Pidge.

It was rare for a beta to challenge an alpha, and Lance found it especially rare that said beta would stand up for an omega.

Keith and Pidge continued to yell. Harsh words flew through the air as the two got closer to each other.

"No wonder you were mated to an alpha! You wouldn't be able to take care of an omega!"

The room grew silent.

Pidge had a moment of realization before he was thrown across the room.

Shiro ran towards Pidge, making sure he was okay before turning to yell at Keith, "stop this, you're digging yourself a deeper hole!"

Hunks chair skidded across the floor as the beta let out a yelp.

Lance saw red; that was his nest member. That was the fourteen year old pup that he was supposed to protect.

As Keith approached the cowering beta, Lance launched himself at the alpha.

The alpha was pinned to the ground with a red eyed omega over top him.

Keith was startled to say the least.

"If you EVER touch him again, I will rip your fucking throat out." Lance growled.

A rare trait  to see in someone other than an alpha was growling. Usually only happening when an omega felt their pups were being threatened.

Once Lance was sure there would be bruises on the alpha in the shape of his hands, he got off the alpha.

Lance calmly walked over to Pidge, picking the boy up and walking out the room.

Keith stayed frozen on the ground, bewildered.

Hunk soon snapped out of his daze and ran from the room, heading towards his friends.

Shiro was shocked to say the least; he had just heard the growl of a protective mother.

But Lance was a beta....

Right?
