'I think I know what Bucky meant by 'do not stare'. Jacob thought as he tried not to stare at the school's receptionist.

The woman was in her late forties but wore an obsessive amount of makeup. Her black eyeshadow wasn't properly rubbed in so it looked like she had raccoon eyes. The lipstick was too red. The blush didn't match her skin either.

'She does not know a thing about putting on makeup.' Jacob thought as he steps up to the desk. "Excuse me," he spoke up. The receptionist picks up her head and Jacob tried not to cringe. She looked like a clown. "Im Jacob Danvers. I'm a new student." he said awkwardly.

"Ah yes, Mr. Danvers. Stay here, I'm going to go get the principal." she said before hurrying down a hallway that stood left from the reception desk.

Jacob stood there in silence, clutching the strap of his backpack. He tapped his foot and waited patiently. 'How should I pretend to be a normal kid when I meet the principal?' Jacob thought as he looks out the door into the hallway. There weren't any students around as far as he could see.

The receptionist returned with an older woman dressed in a grey pantsuit. Her face was worn out from years of frowning. Jacob could tell because his father had the same look.

"Hello, Mr. Danvers. I'm glad to finally meet you." said the pantsuit lady. "I'm Principal Summers." she introduced herself. "Nice to meet you, Principal Summers." Jacob said as he shakes the woman's hand. "Usually, I would make a speech about how glad I am to have you but since you arrived in the middle of the second semester, it is best to get you started right away." Principal Summers said.

The receptionist hands Jacob his schedule and a map of the school. He keeps quiet and reads his schedule and looks at the map. It was considerately small but it's not as confusing as his old school.

"I understand. I promise that I'll get started right away." Jacob promised.

"Good. Now, come with me so I can take you to your first period." Principal Summers said as she ushers Jacob out the door and into the hallway.

The two of them walk silently down the hallway. They passed the cafeteria with long wooden tables that were spread out and in the middle were round tables. Microwaves were standing beside the napkins and utensil dispenser. Nothing like St. Martha's Private School.

"There are three lunch periods and you can eat outside but you can't leave the property." explained Summers. "A lot of kids try to sneak out and get reprimanded." she said. She gives Jacob a stern look. "I'm not going to let anyone get away with trying to sneak out."

'She knows something.' Jacob thought tensely. "Okay." he said.

They moved through two hallways, passing the library. Jacob had noticed that the students that they passed would look at him. He kept his eyes forward and listened to the principal.

"Since you already have enough credits for your advanced diploma, you'll be helping the counseling office during your free periods."

He nods as an answer.

Finally, they reach Jacob's first period class. English 12. Personally his best class.

"This is where we part ways. I hope that I won't have to see you again unless it's a simple passing in the hallways." she said with a passive glance. "I promise not to make any problems." Jacob said. "Everyone says that." Summers said before leaving Jacob.

'She could be a lawyer with that attitude.' Jacob thought before taking in a deep breath and enters the room.

Over twenty teenagers turned their heads to look at Jacob. The teacher stopped what she was saying to look at him. "May I help you?" she asked. "Uh, I'm Jacob Danvers. I'm the new student." Jacob introduced himself. "Ah yes!" the teacher said.

"Everyone, this Jacob Danvers. He will be joining us for the final year of high school." she said. "I hope you'll give him a warm welcome."

Facing the other students, Jacob tried not to shrink away under their gazes. Giving them a small wave, he waited to be given instructions.

"Take any empty seat." she said.

"Okay." Jacob said before taking the first seat he saw. It was one of the front row seats so he wouldn't have to see anyone staring at him. 'If I can make it through this day with no problems, i can make it through the year.'

"So as I was saying: we will start brainstorming for our essay today so that you'll have an idea how to start it next class." continued his teacher. He reads his schedule and saw that her name was Mrs. Zachary. "Jacob, I'll explain what we are doing when I get back from the copy room. I'll be right back!" Mrs. Zachary said before leaving the room.

'Great. No one to defend me.' Jacob thought as he began to look through his backpack for a pencil and paper.

"Hey, new guy!" said someone from behind.

Jacob feels someone poke him from behind and had no choice but to turn around. The student behind him was a young stud with spiky blond hair. He wore a basketball jersey with the school colors which were black and blue.

"Yes?" Jacob asked calmly.

"The name's Zack. So what are you doing in Clarksville?" asked the student curiously.

"Change of scenery." Jacob replied. "Can you tell me about the assignment?" he asked, hoping to change the subject on him.

"Just about the craziest thing that changed our lives. It's to help us with our essay skills." Zack said. "Mrs. Zachary will explain the rest. I don't really pay attention much." he said with a shrug.

'Craziest thing? There's a handful that I can't tell them about.'
