"Bucky, this is none of your concern! This is a family matter!" shouted Patricia.
"You did not see the terror on his face! He called the person 'the devil' for god's sake!" Bucky yelled back.
"If we need your help, we will call you! Now please leave!"
"No way in hell!"
Jacob stared up at the ceiling, trying to tune out the shouting match. The interesting fact was that he was upstairs in the bathtub and they were downstairs. 'I should've brought my phone to play music.' he thought as he stretches his body and let the water wash over him.
Two hours ago, he woke up to Bucky shaking him awake. The man had laid him on the couch and roused Jacob from unconsciousness with a cold towel.
Jacob started to shake the moment he woke up. The fear was overwhelming him. He felt like a scared little kid again.
His mind flashed back to when he woke up. Hearing Gabriel's voice had his entire body shut down.
When his eyes open, he didn't see anything but the face of the devil. It took all his might not to scream at the top of his lungs. Bucky asked what was wrong but Jacob didn't answer. All he did was shake like he was in the snow storm.
Everything after that was a blur. Next thing Jacob knew was that he was in the tub and listening to his aunt yell at Bucky. He didn't know when Patricia got home but wished that none of this was happening.
Tilting his head back, Jacob tried to tune out the yelling. He closes his eyes and dips his head under the water.
Suddenly, he hears heavy pounding echoing through the water. It startled him into sitting up with a gasp. The pounding was louder, and Jacob realizes it was coming from the door. He was caught off guard but decided not to let who was on the other side of the door wait.
Climbing out of the tub, he wraps a towel around his waist and heads to the door. 'If that's Bucky, I'm gonna kick his ass.' Jacob thought as he opens the door.
On the other side was actually Patricia. She paused mid-knock, caught off guard by Jacob opening the door. 'Fuck.' Jacob thought.
Patricia opens her mouth to speak but stops when she saw his body. But more importantly, his scars. "Oh my god." she said in horror. Her eyes stare at every scar that she could see. "You poor soul." Patricia whispered.
"Patricia, I do not want you to worry about me." Jacob said, already knowing this was a lost cause.
"Worry?! I'm terrified! I thought Bucky was exaggerating but he's not!" Patricia exclaimed. She gestures toward the scars that dance across his body. "You look like you went through hell!" she yelled in exasperation.
'You don't know the half of it.' Jacob thought as he tries to think of the most believable lie. Sadly, he was caught off track as Bucky walks up the stairs. The older male quirked an eyebrow when he noticed Jacob in a towel. His eyes staring at Jacob's half naked body made the former fighter squirm mentally.
Quickly, he ignores the look Bucky was giving him and focuses on Patricia. The worry in his aunt's eyes made him pause. It made him realize just how deep the grave he was making. He's been lying for too long. Now it's time to tell the truth.
"Okay, Patricia. I'll tell you the truth. The whole truth." he promised.
"Thank you." Patricia said with a sigh of relief. "Now, give me a few minutes so I can change." Jacob said before shutting the door.
'Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.' Jacob thought as he paced back and forth in the bathroom. Dropping the towel, he snatches his clothes and quickly puts them on. 'Maybe I can sneak out through the window!' he thought, looking at the too small of a window. 'If I am motivated enough.'
At first, that was his idea. He was prepared to squeeze through the window. But he stopped himself. Taking in a deep breath, he collected his thoughts and calmed down.
'I can't keep running. I have to face my fear.'
Sighing, Jacob towels his wet hair and leaves the bathroom. 'I have to face the music.' he thought dreadfully.
Patricia and Bucky were waiting downstairs in the family room. They looked like concerned parents if Jacob didn't have a major crush on the 'father'. He chose to keep his eyes on Patricia as he sits down on the couch. Jackal climbs into his lap and started purring happily. It eased the tension a little bit as Jacob tried to think of a way to tell the whole story.
"It started when I was sixteen. I had noticed my friend was getting odd bruises and being all shady. Against my better judgement, I followed him to this abandoned warehouse," Jacob explained. Recalling that horrible memory was causing his body to shake uncontrollably.
"I snuck in and watched him . . . start fighting these people. And he didn't stop until they were dead." he said; his mind showing those images of dead men and women. "They found me but instead of killing me, they made me fight Louis. It ended with me killing him." He heard a horrified gasp escape Patricia as a curse left Bucky.
Struggling to continue, Jacob kept his eyes facing down so that he couldn't see their faces. "I've been fighting for my life, trying to find a way to escape Him. But the devil has found me." Jacob finished, his hands curling into fists. "He's coming for his champion."
The silence was deafening. He heard Jackal's purring and Mason's panting as if they were in his ear.
Finally, Jacob looks up at the two adults to see their reactions. Patricia had a troubled look on her face, and Bucky looked disgusted. Seeing the cowboy's face made Jacob feel weird inside. Almost as if he was disgusted with himself.
'Why am I thinking this way? I should only care what Patricia thinks.' Jacob thought.
"The person that called you, was that the man who is . . . controlling you?" Bucky asked. A stone cold look was on the man's face. He looked prepared to explode. "Yes. His name is Gabriel. I call him the angel of death." Jacob said with a wince. "He calls me his prized possession."
Suddenly, Patricia jumps up from her spot on the couch and runs upstairs. It caught Jacob and Bucky off guard.
"Well I lost any hope that Patricia wouldn't freak out like that." Jacob said in disdain. "You can leave now. This meeting is over." he said to Bucky.
"Now hold on–" Bucky tried to speak but Jacob cut him off.
"No! I could've handled this on my own. But you just had to shove your damn nose in places where you shouldn't have!" Jacob growled. He was prepared to kick Bucky out but stops himself. His anger disappeared and was replaced with concern. "I'm gonna ask you one thing though. Please watch over Patricia. I don't want her to get hurt." he begged.
"Of course I'm going to watch over her. She's a good friend of mine." Bucky promised.
A hand was placed on Jacob's shoulder, startling the former fighter. Looking up, Jacob noticed that Bucky was closer than before. "And I'm going to help you too." Bucky said intently.
"Why?" Jacob asked bluntly.
"Because, I find you interesting." Bucky described. He places both his hands on Jacob's cheeks and leans in. "And I know you find me the same." he whispered before their lips press together.
