Chapter Fifty-Six: Blood On My Hands

I sat against the wall on a table as Harry explained to us his idea for a new Mental Activity dampener that we could use against DeVoe. I wasn't really listening though. Why? Because my boyfriend was at Izzy's bedside, tending to wounds that I gave her. I used my powers to hurt someone. And i'm not completely sure it wasn't intentional! So not only am I not any better than the criminals we have dedicated our lives to putting in jail, I might've just driven the only guy I've ever loved into the arms of another woman. Not that I've told him I love him, despite my best efforts.

"We could use this against DeVoe." Barry said, drawing me back to the conversation.

"We could use this against DeVoe." Harry repeated.

"That's brilliant. I'm totally on board, except, Mental activity dampener?"

"Ramon, the name's no good. Which is why, drumroll please, I have decided to rename this the cerebral inhibitor." I perked up at this point.

"Wait a minute, didn't Savitar say something about a Cerebral Inhibitor that we used against DeVoe?" I asked, jumping off of the table. Barry and Iris nodded.

"I wish I had known that before I spent all this time trying to come up with a second name. Naming is hard."

"Ok, so we can use this on DeVoe to keep him from projecting his consciousness into new bodies."

"Precisely."

"How does it work?" I asked.

"Just affix it to his forehead, it activates. Simple as that. I'll make a few adjustments, you'll be good to go."

"Alright. Ok, when Harry's done, we go after DeVoe." Barry said. "I mean, we have Izzy's powers, the cerebral inhibitor, I mean, we have everything that we need to stop him."

"Except that we don't." We all turned around to see Ralph, holding the fiddle case. "Izzy's gone."

"What? What happened?"

"What did you say to her?" Barry asked, automatically assuming it was Ralph's fault.

"Me?"

"Yeah."

"Rookie, homeslice hit the road because of you two." He pointed between Barry and I, and I suddenly felt very guilty and very scared. "She's convinced she can take on DeVoe by herself, that's what she's gone to do. You kept pushing and pushing her, and then Laura attacked her, what the heck was that?!" I looked away from him. "Both of you pushed her right out the door."

"Ok, that's not fair." Iris said.

"No," I stopped her. "No, he's right. This is all our fault."

"But if DeVoe gets to her before we do..." Barry trailed off.

"That cannot happen." Ralph said. "Cisco, you need to use your ESPN and find out where she is."

"Give me that thing." He took the fiddle case and I could feel Ralph's eyes on me. I refused to look at him. If she dies...it's on me. It's my fault. Her blood will be on my hands, and on top of that...I think Ralph is going to break up with me.

All of a sudden Cisco was thrown across the room flipping a table in the process. We all gathered around him, Caitlin crouching down beside him.

"Cisco, are you ok? Can you hear me?"

"She's at the warehouse district. DeVoe's there." I grabbed my mask from the table, leaving the room.

"Laura..." Barry started.

"Laura, wait." Ralph called. I ignored them, taking off and flying out the door.

~~~
I arrived at the Warehouse district to see Izzy and DeVoe standing directly across from each other.
