The last thing Rey remebered was her being in her balcony, looking at...Ben, crying. Then, nothing. Just black. Where was she now? She opened her eyes to find herself in a white room, full of medical equipment and... Finn and Poe and Rose and C3PO and R2 and Chewie and Connix. Why where they there? What was happening? Then, like a bullet, a wave of overall pain hit her. Tiredness, sadness, regret, determination. She had to use the force to ease them. She walked over what her friends were looking at.
"No"
She thought realizing why her friends had a that sad face, why some of them were crying. It was Leia.
she was in a bed, sleeping or unconscious, with medical equipment all around her. There where no nurses there. It only meant one thing.
Rey tried to touch Rose's shoulder so she could hold Leia one last time, but her hand passed through her like Rose was made of thin air. She looked at her hand, then at Rose. She was still, she didnt even move.
"They cant see me"
After the realization she took advantage of it and threw herself over Leia, for a last embrace. It was too soon. She needed her, the Resistance needed her, her son needed her. She let out all the pain, everything. She was crying helplessly, sobbing and shaking.
It seemed like hours passed when she managed to compose herself to just tears. She got up and tried to read everyone's minds to see what they're favorite moment with Leia was, what they regret not saying to her, what they thought the rest of the Resistance's reaction to the sad news would be. Most of them where happy moments, some remembered what they last said to her, some what they would do if she woke up, but Rey knew that was only going to be a dream from now on. She was so focused on the others mind, that she didn't even felt his presence.
Ben. He was standing in the corner of the room, watching, tears in his eyes. He seemed surprised too when he realized she was there too, staring at him. They locked eyes for what seemed like a lifetime, until he opened his mind and she looked inside.
It was a flower field, in an unknown planet for her. Leia was sitting on the floor, with her eyes closed, and in front of her was a little Ben, counting the petals of a flower he thought was special. It was beautiful. The sun was shining on them and Rey could feel the happiness they felt in that moment.
She then snapped out of it. He was still looking at her.She didn't even tried to fight back tears, tears that weren't of sadness, but from empathy, to Ben. She looked back at Leia, and walked through her friends to make sure she would remember every single feature in her face and hands.
Ben did the same thing. He came closer to his mom and hugged her for one last time, putting the memory he just showed to Rey in his mother head so she knew that he cared, that he loved her. Rey focused on his feelings and on his mother's ones. She then realized that what hit her before weren't her feelings, but Ben's and Leia's. But they turned to something else, they were some kind of happiness, of resolution. Rey didnt realize but he was telling his mother that he forgave her, that it was okay, that he loved her more than anything and that he was sorry. And with a last little smile, Leia took her last breath.
