Okay, another blog, I know, sorry for the cheats. If I'm gonna get this thing published, though, I need to iron it out.
I know for a fact that the city is gonna be big, containing most of the story. I imagine it being somewhere similar to England (I know, I'm kinda biased towards that idea), though I don't think the culture will have too significant an impact. Important areas for the story will include a church (where the main hero/ine can go to get some alone time), a shack in the bad part of town (the werewolf's base, showing the suffering he has to endure and help with), a manor (where the vampire goes to charm the hero/ine)... if I'm missing anything, talk to me, but those are the ones to come to mind first.
The vampires will be pretty traditional European ones, enjoying the improved popularity from... certain movies. For the most part, they'll just be typical vampires, trying to avoid making too much fuss to avoid drawing attention to themselves. It can't all be hunky-dory, though; they won't be the only clan of vampires in the country, and that's not even mentioning their infighting. Their supposed image of perfection is going to be shattered by their werewolf rivals, whose blood they can't drink thanks to the Rules of Bygone Eras. I haven't made my mind up on any individual yet, but I'm thinking of a couple of templates; patient lord, spunky warrior girl, studious guy, the usual crew. Nobody's particularly bloodthirsty unless they haven't had any in a month or so (weekly feeding is best for 'em).
Werewolves are gonna be somewhere between feral and tame. They're intelligent enough to trap and eat humans mostly undetected, but their numbers mean they can't be as aggressive as a lot of them hope to be. There's plenty of fighting, mostly playful, but they're definitely a strong family. Their main contention is the police force, since they don't have the hiding capabilities of vampires, and one other werewolf clan. I feel as though each clan (both of werewolves and vampires) should have some sort of signature technique, but what to make it... that's something to consider later.
I like the struggling office worker character I had with Garden of the Alraune, I plan to bring her back, hopefully as the main character, but I definitely need to work on her some more. If I don't know the trope, I shouldn't work the trope. She might still have a casual interest in gardening as a nod, but without a concrete plan for her I should avoid the alraune herself. She's definitely a viable character, let's make no mistake, but she'll need plenty of work. She seems like she'd ally herself with the smarter vampires... the secretary, naturally, would be neutral, but how would she sense the presence of the others?
There's still plenty to think about, and I hope writing the ideas down like this proves to be helpful. Hope you all enjoyed reading this; remember, any ideas you may have are ideas I want! I might even end up adding your plans to mine, making a full story out of it!
