I walk into Ruthie's, Jay holding my hand and toddling behind me. I make my way over to the counter quickly as I see Ruthie.
Ruthie looks up and smiles, wiping her hands on her pristine white apron before coming around the corner.
"Didn't expect to see you til tomorrow, doll. What can I do for ya'?" She asks, looking down and spotting Jay, her smile widening.
"Well Jay was so fond of your cooking that he wouldn't stop talking about it all day. So I thought we should come back for tea, isn't that right Jay?" I say, looking down at my son with a smile.Jay nods quickly and smiles widely at Ruthie.
"Well I can certainly help with that, what are we having Jay-Boy?" she asks with a chuckle, still looking down at Jay.
"Sgetti!!" He announces, hopping foot to foot, smiling happily.
"1 Bolognese special and some of your Mac n Cheese, please Ruthie." I say with a smile, watching as she nods.
"Okay, sounds good! I'll be out in a bit deary, take that handsome little man and find a seat. I'll be back soon with your food." She says, smiling again at Jay before spinning around and going back to the kitchen. I smile and turn around, spotting a small two person seating. Perfect.
"Come Jay, let go sit." I say, squeezing his hand gently as I move us over to the table.
I get Jay seated quickly, setting him up with his blocks. I smile as I watch him stack them on top each other before sitting across from him, sitting my bag beside me. I tap my finger a top the table, humming a little tune I heard on the radio on the way over here, smiling at my sweet boy.
Sitting back against my chair I look up and glance around the busy diner. Smiling at the calm atmosphere. Excited that I'll be starting here tomorrow.
My daydream breaks as I hear loud laughter coming from the back booth. I find myself looking over, immeditely regretting it as I find the booth, full of Bikers! Six giant, tattoed, scary bikers!
My eyes widen as I take them in, laughing and slapping each others backs, until him. Omg! He's staring right at me! I bit my lip and look down, focusing on the table. My hands now fiddling nervously under the table.
Taking a deep breath I raise my head, looking at my son. He's giving me a quizzical look, obviously picking up my nervousness. I smile reassuringly stack a couple more blocks in front of him, earing a loud giggle as they all come tumbling down on the table.
I chuckle softly, fighting the urge to look up above his head to see if the biker is still looking.
Losing that fight I quickly look up and find that he's no longer looking at me. Instead he's stabbing at a piece of cake in front of him, obviously angry as his companions continue to laugh and talk to each other.
Seeing that he's not focused on me I quickly take a deeper look at me. Under his vest he's only wearing a wife beater, giving me good view of his large tattooed arms. His muscles buldging as he destroys the piece of cake. I bite my lip softly again, looking up further. Omg, he is HOT. Like drop dead gorgeous!
His jaw is perfectly squared and chiseled. His nose perfectly aligned with to die for lips. Continuing my assessment I look up higher. His eyes are beautiful. Blue crystals, that's why they remind me of. His dirty blonder hair hanging loosely at shouler length, the fringe tucked behind his ear. He's gorgeously built, from body to face and HUGE. Looking him up and down once more my eyes collide with his! He's looking straight at me, a sneer now covering his face as he shakes his head, turning away from me.
Well, if that wasn't a clear look of disgust I don't know what is. I shake my head and turn back to Jay, helping him with his blocks. I don't know why it even bothers me that he looked at me with disgust. I know I'm not ugly, but I'm certainly not one to take a second look at. Too much chub on my hips and legs that I could do to lose, hair that hasn't seen a hair dresser in more than 3 years. To round it up I'm no one's first choice, and certainly not a drop dead gorgeous bikers, whom I should not even be looking at in the first place.
I shake my head of those depressing thoughts and look up as Ruthie sits my Mac n Cheese in front of me, pushing Jay's blocks to the side with his plate of Bolognese, smiling widely.
"Now enjoy your meal, and it's on the house tonight as well. And don't argue, I won't hear a word of it! I'll see you tomorrow Carly, I see good things from you in the future." She says, ruffling Jay's hair, making him laugh and me smile widely, nodding my head.
"I won't say no to a free meal Ruthie, but thank you anyways. I can't wait to start tomorrow, and Jay's even more excited to start at the family daycare near home." I say, adding salt to the top of mine and Jay's meals.
"Oh yes, I can't wait either. To be honest if you did even half the job of what that girl serving is meant to do, I'd be one happy camper. Only 2 more weeks and she's back to school, so thank god for small favours." She says with a laugh, gripping my shoulder. "Now, eat up before it gets cold!"
I giggle along with her and nod my head. "Okay, thank you again Ruthie!" I say, watching her leave swiftly.
I stand up and lean over the table, cutting up Jay's spaghetti noodles quickly, not quickly enough. I feel it before I hear it. SLAP! My ass stings as I jump up, turning around to see an older man opening the front door. "Thanks for the nice view darlin', maybe if you're not busy later you can join me in my truck for a bit of fun, aye babe!" He says winking, before leaving through the door.
I don't even realise I'm holding my breath until the door closes properly, exhaling and sucking in a deep breath. My body shaking as I turn back around and sit down, swallowing the bile in my mouth, blinking back my sudden tears. WHAT A PIG!
"mumma, oo ok?" My sweet boy asks, staring into my eyes. I swallow and nod my head quickly, taking a deep breath before reaching out, stroking his cheek gently.
"Mumma is fine baby, don't you worry. Now quick, eat up or it'll go cold." I say, picking up my own fork, pushing the Mac n Cheese around my bowl. I watch as Jay accepts my answers and digs into his food, shovelling food into his small mouth. I smile softly and look back down at my bowl, my fork going around in circles.
"You okay?" a voices grumbles. I look up to see the sneering biker from the booth, my eyes widening as I look at him, seeing his friends behind him at the counter.
"U-Um yes, thank you." I say quietly, biting my lip.His eyes narrow on my lip before shooting to my son and back to my eyes. "Yeah, well maybe next time you'll think before putting your ass out there for every man and his dog" He growls before stomping off through the front door, slamming it closed.
I sit their wide eyed, my mouth opening and shutting in shock. Before anger takes over my body. "Jay baby, stay here and do not move, do not talk to anyone, do you understand?" I say, watching him nod.
I stand up quicky, shoving my seat back as I turn and open the door, storming through it. Looking back to make sure I can see Jay through the big windows, seeing him i get back to my mission. I look around the parking lot before spotting him leaning against a bike, lighting a cigarette between his mouth.
My eyes narrow as I stomp over, ripping the cigarette from his lips and throwing it to the ground, his head lifting, eyes open in shock as his mouth gapes open.
"HOW FUCKING DARE YOU! YOU RUDE ARROGANT PIECE OF SHIT! SO BECAUSE I BENT OVER I DESERVE TO HAVE MY ASS SLAPPED FROM SOME PERVERT IN FRONT OF MY SON! ALL BECAUSE I WAS CUTTING UP MY CHILDS MEAL SO HE DIDN'T CHOKE! YOU ARE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS WORLD! MAKING EXCUSES FOR A WOMAN BEING SEXUALLY HARRASSED MY PIGS LIKE YOU!" I scream, not being able to stop if I wanted, I raise my hand and slap him straight across the face! Tears welling in my eyes as I spin around and stomp back inside the diner, passing his friends whom all stand their, gaping in shock as I slam the door to the diner, dropping back into my chair across from Jay.
I take a deep shaking breath as I wipe the tears from my face, pulling a smile from deep within as I look up at Jay. "Sorry baby, mummy had a bit of a silly tantrum. Are you okay baby?" I ask, my voice still a bit shaky. He nods and smiles before going back to his meal, humming to himself in happines with each bite. Ruthie comes over and offers me a quick squeeze to my shoulder and a smile before walking away, the rest of the diner going back to their meals.
As I calm down, sipping on a glass of water, reality comes crashing down.
Holy fuck. I JUST SLAPPED A BIKER!!
