chp 18 "i can smile"

I woke up early, clock showing 6:30 in morning. The sun was radiating its little orange spreader across my window, which was coming a little inside and other was blocked by my curtains.

I uncovered my colored duvet and stood up and went to the window opening the curtain so that rays could reach inside fully. I didn’t opned the window because of the cold weather and stood there for some time just to engulf the beauty of the morning.

Then I did my morning suff and went downstair to join for the breakfast. I saw Nik and tina already waiting for me with the cup of tea in their hand. I quickly made my way to table and sat beside tina who was sitting opposite to Nik.

She gave my cup with tea and greeted me with a smile.

“good morning” tina voice was just like a sugar dissolving in your ear. Sweet and simple, but cute. In return I too greeted both of them trying to smile same as tina.

“get ready in 10 min I will drop you today” said Nik peeping his head inside his business newspaper with one hand and cup of tea in another.

“I have news for both of you” said tina blusing, and me and Nik raised an eyebrow questioning and telling her to continue.

“I am pregnant” she said and closed her eyes tightly, waiting for us to react.

The reaction where a) Nik left the newspaper from his hand, his hand automatically left the cup on the table with ‘thak’ sound.

b) he processed the information and quickly went to tina hugging her from her shoulder.

Tina opned her eyes with the gental touch of the Nik’s arm on her shoulder and saw him and then turned to me.

“see that!!” tina exclaimed pointing towards me and Nik follows the cue and see the thing she was pointing.

“what?” I asked.

“you are smiling” tina said and stood up making way towads me and hugged me.
I pulled my hands to my lips which have now curled up forming a smile. I can’t belive I was smiling after so much time or so many years. This was not the forced smile I usually tried to give it was a happy smile. I hugged her back my hand going around her waist and I retracted immediately saying,

“I didn’t hurt the baby right?”

“no, its fine” said tina smiling.

I patted my hand on her abdomen and said “welcome little baby.”

“Nik you should take a leave today, I can manage to go by myself” I said standing up from my chair and taking my laptop bag.

“are you sure?” asked Nik.

“yeah, I am 100% sure. Bye”

I went straight to the door and took taxi. It stopped at my destination and I moved towards the building entering my pass code.

I waited for the lift to open and went inside and pressed 13 floor’s button on the panel. It was closing when person stopped it by putting his leg between the door and lift opned showing a man in grey suit, white shirt with black gel hair and…blue eyes.

The deep and intense blue eyes.

He saw me and gave me a big smile, showing his perfect white teeth.
He came inside and the lift started, he looked at me and said “the dinner was very good, yesterday. I really missed the home cooked food after I left ahemdabad.” And I just nodded in response, without looking at him.

“how’s tina and Nik?” he asked watching me which I could see from the reflection of us on the door. Name of tina again caught my attention to the new member of family

“hey?” Ronit voice made me come to reality and I looked side way to glance him, he was looking confused. I understood that must be smile I had when I heard the news and that be the confusion factor.

“I can smile.” I simply stated and the door of the lift opened showing the floor we work. I didn’t let him to say anything and left the grey box with grey suit man inside.

The rest of the day went usual, just a little more work because it was Saturday today. So, extra work to be completed before hand.

I saw my clock showing 7:00 in the evening when I got the call on my cell phone showing me Nik’s name. I picked up the call and he said he is waiting down for me to pick me up. I sorted all my work and went down and saw Nik’s car. I went to it and seated at the back of the car. I remembered the last night when I was siting on the front seat but I shook my head and told Nik that we can move. The car moved and again stopped.

“hey, Ronit!” exclaimed Nik looking out from the window.

“hey” the man replied with a smile forming a dimple on the cheek.

“how’s you?”

“fine. Why are you here?” asked blue eyed man.

“just to pick up her” Nik said pointing towards me at back. Ronits’s eye shifted to back and it locked with me for a few second when I broke it looking down.
“okay I will see you around, I have little work to finish. Just in a hurry. Bye” he waved to Nik and looked at me and went to his car.

Nik to drew the car and we reached home.
