CHAPTER 29:

I tried to keep my life as normal as possible, but it was just too hard. At school, I would find myself in the bathroom bawling my eyes out, while Dean would sit outside the cubicle and wait for me to calm down. It was two weeks since the funeral when I decided to visit Ollie’s grave again. I decided I did not want to bring anyone with me, so I left as soon as school got out.

“Hello?” I answered my phone as soon as it rang.

“Leb, where are you?”

“I’m on my way to the cemetery. I’m just walking. Sorry, I didn’t tell you. I just need some time to be with my thoughts. I hope that’s okay, Dean.”

“It’s alright. Are you sure though?”

“Yeah, you need to rest too. I’ve tired you out all week.”

“Caleb…”

“Dean, it’s alright. I’ll be fine.”

“Call Mike or me if you want someone to pick you up, okay?”

“I will. I promise.”

“I love you, Caleb.”

“I love you too, Dean.” I hung up my phone and continued walking.

“Where’s your boyfriend, fag?” I looked up to see Harvey in my way.

“I don’t have time for your bullshit, Harvey.”

“What are you gonna do about it? You’re all alone.”

“Do you want to know how Reggie felt when I broke his nose?”

He laughed. “You think you can hit me?”

“I don’t have time for this, asshole.” I tried to move past him, but he grabbed my arm.

“Why are you in a rush? I haven’t beaten the crap out of you yet.”

“If you must know, even though it’s none of your damn business, I’m going to visit my brother’s grave,” I said. “So, if you actually have a human heart, let me go.” He pushed me back to where I stood before.

“Let me guess, your brother was a fag like you. So, someone had the decency to help clean the world and kill him?” The anger built up in me in seconds. I charged for him and grabbed him by the collar.

“You listen to me, you son of a bitch, don’t you dare talk shit about my brother like that. He wasn’t gay and he is ten times the man you’ll ever think you’ll be. I’d hit you right now, but that’s one thing my brother hated.”

“You’re a weakling,” he spat.

“Get a life and stop messing with mine. I’m not afraid of you, not anymore.” I let go of him roughly and walked past him.

“Get back here, you…” I swung around and punched the side of his head. He staggered and fell against the wire chain fence. There was a dazed look in his eyes. He tried to get up, but his knees wobbled.
