Chapter 20

Sara's POV

We stand there for a couple minutes, staring into each others eyes. Her eyes seem to plead with me, but I can't let her hold me, no matter how much I long for it. She may be the Demon's heir, but I am Death's.

I look away from her, "We should get back to the hotel. The police will be here soon." My voice is hoarse and empty.

She nods and gently takes my hand; leading me out of the alleyway. The trip back to the hotel passes in a blur, I keep replaying the knife piercing Xavier's chest. Could I have spared him? Did he really have to die?

Nyssa gently put her hand on my shoulder, jarring me out of my thoughts. "You should get some rest. It was a long day."

I shake by head. Knowing the little girl would just return. "Can we do something? Something in the city?"

She nods, unsurprised of my unwillingness to sleep. "There's a concert tonight. We can go to that if you want."

I nod, "What band?"

She shrugs, "There's a bunch of different one's performing. But it said on the website that 'Beyonce and Fall Out Boy would be playing.'"

I nod, "Okay, let's go."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We slip into the crowds gathering in the park. Nyssa holds my hand the entire time. People try to push past us, but Nyssa gives them a withering look and they back away.
I try to smile at her, "You know we're trying to blend in right?"
She blushes slightly, "But they kept pushing us!" I giggle slightly before fading into silence.
Nyssa sighs and looks towards the stage. "They're starting to setup, do you want to get closer?"
I nod and we make our way to the front of the stage. Hundreds of people surround us, talking and catching up with friends and family. They don't know. They don't think about the fact that at any point; they could die. Whether that be a heart attack or knife, they could die.
I shake my head ruffley, trying to scatter my thoughts. Nyssa tilts her head in question, but I just mouth 'nothing.'
She nods but looks concerned. I feel her gently take my hand as the concert starts. Different bands and singers come on stage, play a couple songs, then leave.
I don't really pay that much attention, but Nyssa seems to be enjoying herself. She hums along to some of the songs and smiles the entire time.
About halfway through one of the Beyonce songs, I hear some shouting from the back of the park. Nyssa seems to hear it as well, as she stops smiling and lets go of my hand.
What looks like the entire police force runs into the crowd.
"We need to leave." I whisper to Nyssa.
"If we do, it will look suspicious. We will be fine." Her lips barely move as she speaks.
A couple police officers made their way onto the stage. "A man has been murdered. We have reason to believe the murder is here."
A bunch of people gasp, but the officer continues. "If you would so kindly stay, we will be needing to question some of you."
I look over at Nyssa. She whole stance has remained calm, except her eyes betray her worry.
The officers start to spread out and are talking to small groups of people. A kind-looking officer comes over to us.
"Sorry to bother you ladies, but did you see anything tonight? Anything that could help us?"
Nyssa and I shake our heads. "We were at home for most of the day, we haven't seen anything. Sorry we are not of more use." Nysa lies sincerely.
The officer nods and tilts his head, noticing her accent. "Where are you from?"
She smiles graciously, "Just out of town, we are here visiting family."
He nods, "Cool."
I take her hand, "I'm very sorry we couldn't help." I flash a smile at him.
The officer smiles back at us, "No problem. Honestly, I doubt we'll get any leads here. The person that killed that man would probably be lying low by now." He shakes his head, "I don't know what type of monster would do that."
I sigh as my eyes start to fill up. Monster. That's what I am. I see Nyssa step in front of me protectively. "No idea." Her voice is smooth with a tinge of anger. "We must be going. I would not want to be late going home."
The officer nods and smiles at us, "Of course. Thank you for your time." As he walks away, Nyssa turns to me. "Do you want to leave?"
I nod. "Let's go home."
